I'm at 8600 miles on my 2014 CBR500R and loving it. Bought it at around 2500 miles. Similar to you, I haven't had any problems with this bike whatsoever. It was a blast at the track and made it a fun challenge to catch people in the turns after they blew me away with their 600s. Nice review!

I have 5000mi on my 2013. Also my first bike, and I agree with everything you've said. If you are watching this video because you are a new rider and are debating getting a bike, this is the PERFECT place to start. I also have some 200 mile days in the saddle with this and it is very comfortable, and I get 250miles @65-70mph out of a tank of gas which is unbelievable. Lube the chain, change the oil, and enjoy!

Just picked up this exact one as my 6th bike. Black though. What you said about wanting to respect it. Wanting to take care of your machine... Honda made them for you. You're young and have a very good attitude towards your journey with motorcycles. You will be a credit to riders everywhere son. I hope this comment reaches you in perfect harmony and safety and that you are still reeling in the road on your Hondas. Stay safe.

Engineers spent thousands of hours tweaking and optmizing the CBR500R while running with regular gas. That is what the bike is optimized for. Some people even claim that you will get less power and worse milage with premium.
@DoubleRRHonda

Preaching to the choir. It was actually a day after that I looked in the manual and looked for the minimum octane number. I had a good reason for running 93 though. When I would run 93, I would notice less popping from deceleration because the fuel detonates at different temps than 87. I actually got the same, if not better gas mileage. No cons to running higher octane but also, just wasting money.

I’m 16 and I started on this bike, mine is a 2015 and it’s a perfect starter. I have friends who are also 16-17 and they have 600’s and the difference is unbelievable. I rode a 05 Cbr600rr the other day and it’s terribly fast. I’m upgrading to a 07 or 08 Cbr600rr. I just got bored with the bike relatively quickly, I do a lot of racing with buddies and my 500 is nothing to them.

Absolutely love my first CBR 500R also, 2019 :) Hope your 2013 still runs like a champ, and if you've traded it in I'm sure you're happy with that choice as well. The 2019 is so damn good. Definitely not the power horse that is the 600RR or 1k or any super sport for that matter, but it feels like the perfect fit for any rider, amateur to expert.

I have the 2013 CBR500R myself and I've put on 24,000km on it since I got it 2 years ago. I haven't had any issues with it so far. Going in to change sprockets/chain next week for the first time and still on the 2nd set of tires. I was looking to upgrade to a CBR650F, but in all honesty this bike does everything. One thing that I wish the bike had is a bit more top end power. Cruising at 120km/h is fine, but as soon as you want to overtake on the highway, the bike takes a while to wind up at that speed. And the last thing is that I don't like the super short first gear. It makes me want to never shift all the way down into 1st whenever I stop. Sometimes I just go down to 2nd and go from there. Aside from that, the bike is great and I hope to keep it for as long as I can. Maybe another cross country trip is in order :)

+DoubleRRHonda Actually, I haven't noticed any difference at around 100-120km/h. Still hitting 5k RPM at 105km/h, so no change there. I know I lost some top end at the expense of better acceleration, but I don't really push the bike up to those speeds. I'll have to give it a proper wringing sometime in the near future to really see for sure.

CBR500R okay for a beginner to start on? I'm also contemplating the CBR300R,...but would the 500 be better on the highway if you do a lot of highway riding? This will be my first bike. Looking to hopefully get mine around end of October! I find cruisers boring,so I am passing on those. Don't want dual sport as I have no plans of off roading. 500 would be plenty big enough for me,..I have no need for anything bigger!

Over here in the US I can get any bike that is 650 cc or less at the age of 15 and as soon as I turned 16 got my full license and can ride any bike ever made. In my opinion starting on the 125 and 250 bikes is useless. If You can't ride those bikes you don't need to be riding at all. I think those are dumb laws. But it was the idiots that ruined it for everyone else I guess.Got to have respect and obey the road laws.

Hey man, love the vids. Really interested in the CBR500R. Don't need crazy power. Just need to be able to do highway speeds easily. I know it maxes out at about 105, but how easy is it go from 50 or 60 to about 80-85mph? Want to be able to safely accelerate out of trouble if need be. Do have any vids, or plan to do any of you riding faster on the highway at those speeds? Would love to see how it handles that. Thanks again.

I have 16000 miles on my 2014 which I bought a new. As you said this cbr500r has been trouble-free. . At 16000 used up one set of tires one set of brakes. That's it. I maintain it well, I've had the fork oil changed and flushed the coolant and the brake fluid and I'm getting ready to do the coolant and brake fluid again. I have a 2017 Thruxton R and A 2019 tiger xrt. . And I still get a smile on my face and enjoy riding the CBR. Which by the way I have equipped with the Honda hard cases. . Honda did a superb job on this motorcycle. My Thruxton has the fairing and is a show piece, just beautiful! But I get almost as many compliments on the CBR.
