Hi James Wonder if you could help. I have these carbs for a bike carb conversion on a car, I have collected all the parts and I am ready to start. However my carbs came without an Air box or the big brass washer retaining plate things. I have velocity stacks, do you remember from these carbs whether the V stacks needed the airbox and/or the brass retaining plate washer thing so they don't fall out the inlet? Hope you understand the question, some terminology I'm not too familiar with

Do fuel injection bikes suffer similarly if left unused and what time period of non use would do damage? Does fuel stabilizer 100% stop this happening or just slow the process enough? Is the new ethanol addition to fuel making a big difference to damage caused? Is there a good fuel additive solvent that really cleans the fuel system without engine damage? Great video, Ive heard of this happening but shocked to actually see it so clearly. Thankyou
@jesseandfriends1

generally fuel injection bikes tend to be okay without adjustment or cleaning for much longer periods of time and even if you were to need to replace an injector that would be the extent of the issue generally with carbs you have to adjust not only based on the altitude you are riding but also every 4-6k miles usually

Did you solve it? We're seeing something similar in a CBR600f2. We believe it's a timing/valve spec issue. Our plan is to get a manual cam chain tensioner, and see if valve clearances are in spec. Then synch and balance carbs after valves are good. Carbs are clean, so we think as the engine heats up, valves move out of spec. Also we see a bog off throttle around 8K RPMs. All leading us to conclude its a timing/spec issue. Hope it helps

hi james i messaged you a few weeks ago about zx9r with intermittent cutting out problem at idle speed and we spoke about valve seat and needle valve in carbs possible worn as i could smell fuel around the bike occasionally, i have stripped them down and found that the needle valves have wear lines close to the tips but there barely visible lines. i know its hard to say with out seeing them but do you this could be cause of problem? am thinking barely visible wear lines would'nt make much of a difference, cheers john,

+James Wright-Roberts thanks james am going to give this a try. I phoned up dealers today and they wanted £49 per needle valve (bastards). there are aftermarket needle valves on ebay for £6 but as a car mechanic i know cheap aftermarket parts are not always a good idear. just wondered if you've ever replaced these needle valves with aftermarkets and if so did you have any complaints afterwards, cheers john.

Hi James, great video. I've got a 1999 F4 that I've cleaned the carbs on, the idle and all throttle up to 75% is 10 times better now however when I go to full throttle it seems to back off as if losing power. Any ideas? I didn't touch the mixture screws and I've checked that no lines are pinched or anything silly like that.

hi James I've just spoke to dealer who done my forks and he said he couldn't understand why I now have 0-10 clicks on one fork and 0-20 clicks on the other fork on the rebound adjusters, am not bit worried these will be out of tune with each other on the road, is it possible to do the necessary work on these forks to get them right without removing the new seals I've had put in, I can also make sure air gap is correct while doing it cos I've lost all confidence with the repairs now, thank john

Hi james, i have a zx9r e1 2000 model which runs keihin cvk 40 carbs, it has a intermittent cutting out problem when engine is hot, if am riding along in 1st gear and pull the clutch in the engine will cut out but once going it seems fine, not mis -firing or lacking power and starts fine on choke, idles fine while warming up too, do you think the pilot jets could cause this as these control mixture at idle speed if am not mistaken, thanks john.

+James Wright-Roberts thanks james think i will do just that, some advice on suspension please, i recently took my forks off and took them to my local main dealers to have seals and bushes replaced. after i re fitted them i checked my rebound and compression settings and found that were i should have 13 clicks on rebound damping from fully turned in to fully turned out i now have a range of 1-10 clicks on one fork and 1-19 clicks on the other?? should'nt they both be like before hand with 13 clicks on each fork like haynes manual states?? dose this sound like somethink is not right to you as am thinking they would be out of sync with each other or am i worrying over nothing, thanks john.

Superbike Surgery Ltd he’s asking how can you tell the difference between the 2 different sizes of jets if you mixed them up? I actually made this mistake myself as well. I cleaned my carbs & mixed up my all my jets not knowing they were different sizes. Now with the naked eye I cannot tell the difference between them. I know the 2 larger ones are supposed to go in spots 2 & 3 but I can’t tell the difference between the jets.
