Super curious. I had some datils (almost the same flavor profile, but maybe a little bit stronger and as hot as a habanero) and some chocolate habaneros. One savory and one lemony flavor, I wonder if it could even taste bad together. I'll find out next year

Too bad this pod wasn't isolated. Considering the amount of flowerdrop this plant had gone through, it might be a while until you have another ripe pod. Maybe you could isolate more flowers to increase the chance of getting a ripe pod with seeds you can try to grow for a next generation plant. And I'd grow at least 3 or 4 different plants from those. After all, there is no guarantee the seeds from a ripe pod from this plant will even germinate or that the plants will produce flowers. I think 2 seeds from a pod from this plant may even grow differently, right? Good luck! Exiting to see some progress! By the way, my second batch of ferments is bubbling away nicely and still smell fresh after almost 2 weeks. This time I used some oxheart (or pointed?) cabbage to keep the peppers under the surface of the brine. And I also made the brine using boiling water and I put the brine in the jars while they were still hot after sterilising, and then let then cool down with the lid on, before adding the peppers, to reduce the chance of any nasties getting into the jars.

@ChilliChump: Great video. I'm happy you finally got your hybrid to set fruit. Where did you get that chilli breeding cross-tabel with possible hybridisations between families? And is the claims accurate? Just bought a so-called 'Hardy chilli' (C. Flexuosum) that can withstand minus degrees, and I was hoping to make some hybrids that can more suitable for the cold north. Capsicum Flexuosum is not listed in the table though.. Btw, your chilli should be named ChilliChump Piri Drop instead of Lemon Piri, since it's not yellow or lemony

@@ChilliChump Thanks you for the information of the source. I tracked down the original article and searched for newer findings on the topic of capsicum hybridization. I found a completely fresh article (not even peer reviewed yet) on the reproductive compatibility in capsicum. Why was it difficult to do? The chart suggests that the F1 seeds would germinate normally. Also, what species would one call a hybrid like that?
@ChilliChump
7 ай бұрын
The F1 germinates normally....but isn't highly fertile....or even partially fertile in general. So initial seeds were easy to germinate, but getting fruit...and then seeds that will germinate well at f2, that's where it gets really difficult. The species will depend on what the final F7 traits are like.

You should think more how animal hybrids are named because in the naming of the new breed the farther comes first in the naming rights i.e. a pizzly bear is a mother grizzly with a polar bear father which could make these a Piri drop/lemon Piri depending on which breed was the mother plant
