Description: Dr St. John's formal training was in small molecule drug design and synthetic organic chemistry. After her graduate work she took a position at the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research and Drug Discovery, where she worked in drug discovery from the drug target side - expressing, purifying, and characterizing viral cysteine proteases as targets for inhibition.
The unifying theme in all of this work was chromatography - from RP-HPLC and flash in the synthesis lab to FPLC in the protein lab.
