Great video. Our baby just had both of her knees done...very hard recovery, but both were bad, and even if you do one knee...most often the other will go bad soon after. One long recovery for her, but a week out and she is doing great. She is a big girl at 85 pounds, so it has been hard on us to use the sling, and take her to go to the bathroom. She refused the collar, and the dounut..so Lick Sleeve was our answer...it's working great so far. Good luck to everyone!

Had this done to a great hunting 7 year old GSP for 4k. I was told after rehab, she'd be able to hunt again. First time out hunting , she tore the other knee, another 4k. She never hunted again. She recovered well and lived to be 16 but was not able to run anywhere close to the way she could before the injuries. She even walked differently, GSP's have a bounce to their gate when they walk, after the surgery, the bounce was gone. But she did live out a full, pain free life. It's a very difficult decision to have this surgery done.

My GSD had this surgery this past Wednesday (Jan 3, 2024)… the Dr was very good at explaining but I on the other hand, was having difficulty understanding. Either way I knew it was going to have to be done. We are just past the 48 hr post surgery point and she’s doing very well. With all of that being said, this video has helped me so much to understand exactly what was done and why it was needed. Total cost was around $4800, this included pre surgical visit, ex ray, meds, surgery and will also cover all post op visits.

Don't do it! Try a custom-made orthotic brace first. We had a TPLO in March. The TPLO was followed by an Extracapsular Lateral Suture Stabilization surgery in April. BOTH failed and resulted in pivot shift phenomenon and infection. All hardware was removed in May. Now awaiting a custom-made orthotic brace. Four months of pain and more than $10,000 with zero results. We're worse now than before the TPLO. START with a custom-made orthotic brace.

@@lunacielo7680 I am sure every dog is different with recovery but our dog showed signs very slowly. We massaged her coat to relax her and massaged her muscles around her thigh and upper leg too seemed to relax her. She has recently started running a bit but not for too long and then she limps a little bit but I think it’s because her muscles have been so relaxed is why she limps not because of the actual surgery. CBLO is better option. A lot stronger with less chance of failure and decreased recovery time. With a TPLO your dog not jumping or running post op is crucial to its success. With a CBLO an accident or two is likely survivable.

No need to worry. These surgeries have a great success rate and are very commonplace. Your dog should do fine and the procedure should last their lifetime.

Our dog had to have this procedure and we were very apprehensive about it but we found a board certified canine orthopedic surgeon and after talking to him, we felt much better. The surgery was done and though the first few days were hard, our dog made steady improvement and was good to go after the recovery period. Unfortunately, he promptly blew out the other knee and we just got him home from round two. I think the important thing is to find the right doctor. Yes, the surgery is very expensive but our dog is only five years old and full of life. We wanted to restore his ability to run and play, eliminate his pain, and enjoy life. Your dog will come home with a cone to prevent licking and biting the incision. I think dogs hate the cone, I can only imagine what it’s like for the dog. There are alternatives to the cone, I suggest you look into those pre surgery. Good luck with your pup, we love our fur babies.
