21:28 I did this on the uplink interface of a core switch not long ago. Exactly what you warned about. Should've seen me rushing to the server room to reload! 😀

Hey Jeremy, I'm studying vlans for my ccna. I'm very excited to learn vlans at ccnp level in near future.

I've been working as a Network Engineer for 7 years but just only now have found out that SVI is able to contain secondary address and one more L3 addressing... Thank you, Jeremy!

Jeremy, you're the man. You helped me get my ccna, now i'm chugging along soaking in these ENCOR videos and labbing it up. Hope to ace the exam when it comes time!

Quiz 1 just taught me that I didn't actually understand VLANs until I saw the answer 🤣 . That was a really good tricky question! Thank you for the great lesson.. as always!

same, i thought for two vlans to communicate across two different switches, the vlan needs to be created on BOTH switches. but i guess thats not the case always depending on where your intervlan routing is done!

Hi Jeremy, I watched your CCNA videos and passed my exam two years ago. At work, I don't use Cisco anymore but your CCNP videos still help a lot. Got a question about vlan setup on the router/firewall, even I use layer 3 SVI for inter-vlan routing, do I also need to create a sub-interface on the firewall for the traffic to pass through?

I don't understand how question number 5 can be B "3". In all my labs, I've tested it generated 4 non default vlans

8:00 If there's a switch and a router in the topology instead of a multilayer switch, the packets to another subnet will be sent through the switch to the router, the default gateway, right? Even if the subnet is in the same VLAN. I know that's what's gonna happen, I tested this scenario in packet tracer, I just want to make sure that it's standard behavior. Also, side question, is it possible to somehow set up routing multiple VLANs on one subnet? With what knowledge I have (going through your CCNA course right now) I wasn't able to make it work, because you'd have to assign the same ip address to two subinterfaces, since it's the address of the default gateway and there's only one gateway for one subnet, from what I know. I also tried this scenario in packet tracer, the exchange within a VLAN works fine, because packets don't leave the broadcast domain (I mean switch still sends a copy to the router which just drops them, but it doesn't cause any errors for routing inside VLAN), but I wasn't able to setup neither pinging another VLAN in the same subnet nor pinging a separate subnet entirely. But from what I've read on the Internet it's not impossible, just very inconvenient and is considered a 'hacky' solution.

Hi Michael, First question: Correct, because they are in separate subnets they must communicate via the router (even though they are in the same VLAN). Second question: There are ways you could make it work, but as far as I know there is no legitimate reason to do so. I think it's safe to say "You can have multiple subnets per VLAN, but you can't have multiple VLANs per subnet".

For once I disagree with Jeremy. There's really no good reason to have two L3 on one L2, except during migration processes. If you want a new L3 for whatever reason, just add a new L2 beneath it.
