Great cabling job to the patch panels. To be fair I don't design network racks like this anymore. I leave 1U space between the patch panel to allow a network switch to be installed to keep the patch cable length down to a minimum. Much easier to troubleshoot.

I prefer the same way but I can see why they did it this way. Big switch chassis and not a bunch of 1u devices.

@@rkozaczka Yep. I saw another YT video of the build and was able to see why they did that way. Looks expensive!

I worked a decade for a company that specialized in setting smaller businesses up like this. We would go into mid sized schools, offices etc with over a decade of tech mismanagement and completely gut and rerun everything. Sometimes we would get into a crawlspace and find 5+ routers all plugged in and using power but not even connected to anything but cut cables because of years upon years of bad, cheap IT companies just replacing failing hardware but never actually cleaning things up. We did a charter school of about 800 kids and pulled out several truckloads of cat5/6 cables literally connected to nothing. An entire 12 foot flatbed of switches, routers, modems and other obsolete tech just chilling in their roofs. Countless dollars in scrap metal and precious metal. That's what years of choosing the cheapest option gets you- a cluster ffff so bad the next company charges you twice as much to deal with it.

Yep. It doesn't help that the people in charge don't understand or don't care to understand the potential implications of cheap. I work in K12 IT. There is a disgusting amount of waste in every category you can imagine. Some admins or directors come in and want to try "revolutionary" projects or ideas and they get funding for it, start implementing it and then leave halfway through the project so it gets stuck in limbo. All that money they spent on starting the project is just wasted at that point.

interesting... i do such cleanups when i can't go on without it (I do consulting, not cleanup, but in the end it always boils down to doing what needs to be done). i hope some day i can get behind the maths of things so i can just train these people (onsite) to work it like datacenter techs without running into ages old prejudice about what "can't be done" etc. i think a lot involves tracking and proving the economics of inflexibile / botched designs like you described, but that's about my head. would be great if you ever could also share more some of the trade-/craftsmanship - could be on a whiteboard or something, don't need to actually see the bad examples. IMO we'll always be the smaller group and most will keep creating crap, so it'd not be like anyone runs out of work. but i'd love for people who care to be able to learn from people who specialized in this like you did back then.

Yo! Thanks Michael I appreciate the comment. I'm here to help everyone in the cabling industry with everything I know. Been in the game a long time and now I'm trying to share and give knowledge. This was one of our biggest Projects yes. Nearly 1,300 Cat6A cables. I'm a big project specialist! The bigger the better. If you have any questions no matter how big or small hit me up and I will give you my best.

genuine question, since you are cutting to exact length what happens if you mess up a punch down? beautiful work btw.

Yes sometimes it does happen. We always have at least a "service loop" of slack in the ceiling for when we need it. It's a pain for just one cable but the slack is up there.

Hey I am not trying to say anything bad, but the photos from before don't look that bad to me. Maybe I am missing something but what is bad about this installation? I mean dont get me wrong the after result is amazing but why the previous was bad?
@ccscompletecablingsystem

It was not bad by most standards at all but I was asked if we could do better so I made it my goal to do that. At first glance it looked pretty good but up close too many divers and overlapping. And I'm anal about divers...Cat6A is too easy to dress without divers.
