Awesome built! Thank you for putting this together. Do you remember how much it costed for the wood?

Thanks! I built this in 2020 so the prices were higher than normal. I'm not sure if they've gone down since then but at the time each 8ft clear (no knots) 2x6 was $56 so the total for 35 of them was about $1960. Might vary based on your location and how far the wood has to travel.

i've watched 20 youtube vids on how to build your own tub out of cedar. this is now my benchmark, and the one i'm going to plan my own build on. thanks, fantastic work. no glue anywhere on this build, correct? not even the floor?

Thanks, glad I could help. I also watched every video so I tried to include all the info in one place. No glue at all. Every time you drain it to swap the water it will probably start to drip a bit here and there but I keep a bucket of cedar sawdust and toss a handful in which usually plugs up any leaks pretty quick.

@@gino.varisano mind if i ask another question on this? for the staves, you are ripping the 2x6 into essentially 2.75: x 1.5", then cutting the 8' in half for 4 total 4' lengths, then ripping the desired angle? thanks

I cut them into 4ft lengths first with a miter saw. Even with clear cedar some pieces will still have knots so you may have some pieces where you can only really get 2 or 3 staves from. The only cuts on the table saw should be the stave angles. There’s very little material left over so you probably wouldn’t want to rip them down first. You can see in the background in some shots the trash can full of very thin off cuts. Definitely get some cheaper material to make practice cuts with and you will find the most efficient method.

@@gino.varisano fantastic, yes understood. cut to length, cut into staves from the full width piece. if you have time for a last one - how are you getting so accurate an angle with a table saw? i do see you rechecking every other stave on your template. are you just getting them to as close as possible?

@zappafan3473 i just have a basic jobsite table saw so the angle markings are not very accurate at all. I just dialed it in and cut test pieces, adjusting until they matched my print out. I just kept rechecking every few pieces to make sure it wasn't going out of alignment between cuts. It will never be perfect and it doesn't really need to be, just get it as close as possible and the swelling will take care of the rest. the last stave will be a wonky sized one just eyeball it when you get to it.

Do you treat the water with chemicals, or do you refill with fresh water every two weeks?
