Cool vid. I've gone back and forth on the vapour barrier debate also, but came to a similar conclusion. So I will be using it on my build because well, UK and I will be also using mine during the winter. As for the bed I came across a second hand metal framed adjustable bed. So what I'm planning on doing is modifying it so it can be used as a seating area during the day but easily slid out into a double bed. Though right now I'm still in the early stages, I'm still have a number of body repairs to make which are on hold right now due to the weather.

Thank you! 😁 I think it’s wise to use one in the uk climate, especially if using in the winter time. That’s a neat idea, I have seen some clever designs for slide out beds on here. It’s very windy out there today! Not the weather to be doing bodywork repairs 😂 good luck with your build and thanks for following mine 👍🏼

finished converting my swb mk7 early summer last year, I'm only 5ft 8 and my gf is 5ft3 so the fixed bed across the width just fits perfect for us, although there's definetley not enough room for standing up lol. Currently having issues with rust and had to replace the brake pads and discs. also having trouble as the clutch only works on the rear driver side and not on the passenger side. It seems to be an issue with the clutch cable not 100% sure though. Its great seeing you go through the same process as we did! as for the vapor barrier we managed to pick up some bubble wrap foil fairly cheap off of amazon (not the branded stuff) although definetley not as cheap as your plastic wrap idea. Either way we only used insulation wool so the foil acts as a two in 1 i guess. Enjoying following along thank you for the videos!

Unfortunately rust will always be an issue for these Transits, get it welded up mate and protect it. I will be trying out Lanoguard soon as I’ve heard great things about this product. Sounds like you have been busy. Just remember once you have caught up with the maintenance you should have a more reliable machine and hopefully those things won’t need doing again for a long time 👍🏼 probably a good choice mate, if the budget can stretch I’m sure that bubble wrap vapour barrier offers slightly more insulation and the reflective element. Thanks for your comment and for following the build 👍🏼

got my bed the same way but think im going to change as im 6ft and need to be bent up to fit. Once you have the beams, slats and mattress on top your going to lose more space as the van tapers in towards the top. i realised when i started doing mine but just continued. May lower mine to fit well below the window sill so head and toes will be on the outer panels of the van, with little insulation / probably silver bubble foil at the most.

That’s very true, it’s going to be tight. I may fit the bed and give it a test run for a few nights to see if it will be too tight. You could get a thinner mattress perhaps instead of lowering the whole frame? I will be using really thin insulation in the panels at top and bottom of bed to give extra room also 👍🏼

Couldn’t/shouldn’t you use “climate foil” (like ‘miofol active’)? When it’s warmer inside the van, the foil acts like a vapor barrier. Keeping the insulation dry. And when it’s warmer outside, vapor can only go ín. This way any water(vapor) inside the wall could exit through the inside-walls. Making sure the construction is dry. This is what is used in houses with a full vapor barrier on the outside (flat roofs etc). But: I wouldn’t worry about it too much, this way seems like a good way too. And a lot cheaper. 😙 my van has zero insulation in the walls (even cheaper 😅).

I see lots of people using the silver bubble wrap, it was quite expensive and I can’t see that it really does any different to a plastic sheet. That’s why I just used the sheet. Much cheaper only £5. Will soon find out if it works 🤪
