This $3 ceiling fan makes a great little power generator. You can spin it by hand, with a bicycle or even use it as a wind turbine!
For those interested in seeing pictures of this being used as a wind turbine, check / ytgadgetaddict
This is an AC ceiling fan that normally consumes 4.5W. I've been unable to measure the output as a generator but I'm estimating it at 3-4W based on the loads I've connected.
Since this video, I've already converted it to a wind turbine with a rear fin to catch the wind and ensure it's always facing the wind head on for maximum speed.
I still need to find the best way to convert the variable voltage AC output to a stable DC voltage, preferably 12-14V for charging lead-acid batteries or 5V for charging a USB powerbank.
The fact that it works with my lithium-ion wall charger is a big plug because that means I can charge 18650 batteries which can then be used in regular power banks.
