It works. I have 3 this kind of lights. Two were burned out 2 years ago. One glass cover was able to be unscrewed with lots of effort. The other one would not move at all. Thanks for the tips, I used the rubber end of the hammer handle, very easily removed the stubborn cover. Thinking how much effort I used to remove the other one two years ago, this time it is almost effortless.

I borrowed a ladder from apartment maintenance to DIM, but I couldn't get them to budge. I looked up 4 videos before I came across this video. Examples given in no particular order include: 1. Just turn the glass counterclockwise. 2. Tap the glass counterclockwise with a shoe as you hold the glass and turn it counterclockwise with your other hand. 3. Use rubber gloves that are dry, and sticky. 4. Use really strong Gorilla/Duck Tape. Needless to say I tried #'s 1& 2, but neither worked. I didn't want to wait all day for maintenance to come up and do it for me; so I continued my research online, and I came across this video. Hurray, it worked quickly, and easily! My household item of choice was a rubber spoon; rather than a rubber tip of a tool. Because of course I didn't want to take a chance at breaking the apartment's glass covering. I hope you find this video; rather early in your efforts, and may it help you solve your problem as well!

Impresionante !! Awesome !! I was like a madman trying to turn the glass, and it was impossible no matter how much force I used with my hands, but with the advice provided in this video. . . It came out without using force, I tried at first by gently tapping it with my fist, and it helped me. What I do advise is that you take the safety measures indicated in the video, it is not likely that it will slip out of your hands and fall to the ground, but. . ., A piece of advice from me that is also very important is that you carry out this operation on a ladder that is in good condition, stable, and in a comfortable position to carry out the work. If you do it this way it is more difficult for the glass to fall, so like you falling when you lose your balance, or trying to catch the glass because it has slipped out of your hands.

Tried the tapping method - no success. Then remembered that the last time the globe was changed, it was a very quick change, and the whole fitting was still warm. As the coefficients of thermal expansion of glass and metals are different, I thought that the slightly warmer metal could well have "shrunk down" on the slightly cooler glass (which had been washed and probably cooled substantially) when we put it back onto the fitting. Thought: what about the wife's hair dryer, used carefully? Tried it, and I got the glass off straight away, without even trying to force it! Changed bulb, reassembled it (giving time for all parts to cool to room temperature!) and am now sitting at my computer in my well-lit computer room!

My husband and I have been living in the mere lights of lamps for years. (We are renters) and the owners “simple solution” was “push up and twist”. For years we have taken on this simple task of changing a lightbulb, and it felt like Sisyphus, doomed to push the never ending Boulder up a mountain. No matter what we tried we were doomed to live in darkness. This evening, we were at our wits end, and were determined to give these fans one more chance before we trashed them for good. I told my husband that I would look for any lifelines we could find, and I found your comment. And it came like a beacon of light from the heavens. My husband is a EE and I majored in math, so your comment immediately made logical sense, but the thought of a solution being so simple made us doubtful. Five minutes later, three fan domes were removed, and our souls are delightfully happy. Thank you for your help!!

Not sure of it will work yet, but I put a smidgen of silicone faucet grease near the ends of the tracks. As best I can tell, you don’t want the whole track so slick that it slides all the way out on its own... and it doesn’t tighten down to the very end of the track either. Mine were frozen about an inch short of the very ends.
