Congratulations on your anniversary! I have noticed we Czechs sound rude to other nationalities without meaning to be rude. I guess its the way we bluntly ask questions without wrapping them in cushions. Unlike here in Australia where you have to go through all the "please, at your nearest convenience, if it is not too much to ask, please kindly see..." Taking ages to get to the core, but its polite (but too slow for Czechs :D) 🇦🇺🇨🇿 so apologies if anyone sounds rude! 🙊

I can tell you that - you both are very interesting people to watch and learn from, with good sense of humour and with your expat experience you bring unique point of view to the everyday life we all know. I like the part about learning czech language, how it was dificult at the beginning and the breakthroughs. I think this goes for every "foreign" language. I used to have a great struggle with english. For years I was barely able to finish exercises where I just had to fill in a correct word in a blank spot in a sentence. English seems to be so much easier in compare to czech with all the declinations and gramatical genders. But it is still a foreign language which works different way and which requires to think differently to formulate a meaningful sentence. Sometimes I used to have a problem, that I could understand every single word in a sentence, but I didn't have a clue what the sentence is actually saying. But after some time (much longer time than I would like to admit) I got through some breakthroughs and the language stopped being so cryptical to me. And it was getting only better since then. So big congratulations for all your breakthroughs 👍 It is always amazing moment and feeling to get through them 🙂

Vítejte v mém světě a rád Vás do něj někdy zasvětím :) to budete zírat :D třeba: víte, že "Váš" Buffalo Bill uspořádal svoje turné kolem Ostravy ? Hodně štěstí a radosti :)

hi Jen & Honza, Happy anniversary to you and greetings from Slovakia. This is probably my first time ever youtube comment. I love this channel and this was such a nice video. I'd like to ask you how you perceive Slovakia. Have you been to Bratislava? If not, it would be nice if you could visit it and do a similar video you did about Brno. Do you manage to understand some Slovak (or something from other Slavic languages) with more proficient knowledge of Czech you have now? I know Gavin from TadyGavin did an experiment where he tried to understand random Slovak sentences sent by viewers. It would be interesting if you can do something similar, but I know it is better after your Czech language test and not to confuse yourself now. Good luck with the test and wishing you all the best for your 11th year in Prague.

@@DreamPrague Hey, Jenn! Congratulations to your anniversary!!! 👌👍🤞 I think the kid question was not only very investigative, but also revealed the 'American paradox' - in the US there is (officially) a lot of emphasis on children, in every American (family and war) film there is at least one reference to the 'American family' (father and son play baseball at home, mother advises daughter what to choose a school or how to become a cheerleader 😂😉) - the paradox is that many Americans postpone their families for a career ... Is this 'American paradox' your case? 🤔

I'd like to disagree there, I get asked the same question all the time in the UK too (not by Czechs). It seems to be the same across the world that once you hit certain age people just have to ask about kids. Now I don't really mind if I get asked once but it does irritate me when people keep asking me the same question every few months just to check if I have changed my mind yet. (edited spelling)

Congratulations :) It's nice to have you here! Thank you for your videos. I laugh a lot watching them. And let me add a tiny advice (I know, here it goes again...!) about Czech pronunciation. Maybe you have heard about assimilation. Czech uses regressive assimilation for voiced/voiceless sounds. Which means that p, t, k, s... become b, d, g, z... if followed by a voiced sound. And vice versa. I notice it especially when you say "Ahoj všichni" - the "v" in this word is pronounced as "f", e.g. "fšichni". It is also a lot easier to say, I would think :-) But of course, it would take some time and effort to get used to this rule.

About learning a foreign language: maybe I would recommend (especially to people from english speaking countries) learning basics of Latin first. It's not that difficult, grammar is relatively difficult, but very logical and you learn how to pronounce each individual letter (looking at you, French and English!). I believe basics of Latin should be taught at every school in Europe and America

Souhlas.

Ahoj dear Jen, ahoj Honza, ahoj everybody in Czech Republic! Jen and Honza, first of all I have to thank you for the video you have made for us. I improove my English with you. It is critical issue for me. Coz my perception style is visual and audio. Jen's trained diction helps me with improoving of pronouncement, and Honza's complex sentence construction helps me to create a core of abstract thinking in English. Bravo Jen and Honza, Im so happy to find your entertaining Channel! I love sound of English and German and Romaenian and Czech languages. So, what about themes....Hmmm, I have only worked together with Czechs in Switzerland, I have never visited this beautiful country and actually if I like Jen's/Honza design of video content, probably all infos are gonna be interesting and attractive for me. Guys, do you like historical architecture, is it interesting topic to light it up in English? For example, maybe do you know where placed the oldest building on territory of the Czech Rebublic? Which museums are your favorite? Can you afford yourself sushi or japanese cuisine in Prague? Which foreign cultures are signly integrated into Czech life? Aaaannnddd, I can't wait to see and listen for your next vlog. Liebe Gruesse, Karina.
