The former Queen's birthday is in januari actually. In honour of her mother and the fact that april has better weather than januari, she kept Queen's Day on the 30th of april. King Willem-Alexander decided to shift the celebrations to his actual Day of Birth. Prinses Amalia's birthday is in december. She may well decide to keep the celebrations in april, just as her grandma did. Or perhaps we'll know for sure it'll be a cold celebrations, and don't have to wonder, if when she'll be Queen, the celebrations will be on her birthday.

You know, it took from April 1990 to February 1999 before we had our first child. A little miracle from great China. And as a parent you are proud of every child in your family! We have celebrated many King's Days with our two Chinese gems. Selling stuff on the free market. It was always just great fun. Kids just make you really happy. If all goes well, we will be grandparents for the first time at the end of August. Well, you can bet that in a few years I'll be celebrating King's Day with my grandchild :-) I'm already enjoying it beforehand.

It’s so nice to see Leiden again. I’ve lived over there for a fair share of my life before moving to ‘t Gooi in the 90s. In those days Leiden didn’t celebrate Queensday that much. It used to be all about October 3rd. Queensday was the thing voor Amsterdam and The Hague. When I was younger there used to be parades and fares but not in Leiden. The vrijmarkt was a thing that started in Utrecht I believe but it got so popular that other places took on the idea and now it’s tradition everywhere. Anyway, check out the festivities in Leiden for the 3rd of October. It is really fun. Starts on the 2nd.

Queen's Day used to be on April 30, but the previous queen (Beatrix) was not born on April 30. She was born on January 31, but in honour of her mother (the queen before her) she decided to continue celebrating Queen's Day on April 30 instead of January 31. Also, the weather is nicer in April than in January.

It wouldn't be my personal choice. Been there once during King's day, and I don't think I want to return, I like a little more breathing space. But everyone wants something different from King's day, I suppose, and I agree that it's a good idea people go there at least once, just to get a taste of it.
