Did you know, today (21.03.24) is #WorldDownSyndromeDay? The day falls on the 21st as it is the 21st chromosome that is affected in people with DS, however, all of this week marks #DownSyndromeAwareness.
We are really happy to be sharing a video of two of our wonderful colleagues, Bethany and David, to celebrate the day.
Superintendent and Head of Public Contact, Damian Pettit says, "I’m immensely proud of our colleagues doing so well within a busy and large organisation such as West Mercia Police. Both David and Bethany are such role models.
Our teams and our policing are enriched by David and Bethany’s diligence and compassion. I continue to learn so much personally from David and Bethany and I know many colleagues do also.
It is hugely encouraging that inclusion of different abilities in policing is continuing to develop so strongly across the UK. I’d like very much to see more diversity across our workforce over the coming years."
Chief Inspector and Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion lead, Pete Kitosi-Isanga, adds, "This day serves as a reminder that every individual, regardless of their abilities or differences, deserves to be celebrated and supported.
We recognise the unique strengths and contributions that individuals with Down Syndrome bring to our society, and we stand in solidarity with them and their families. In support of Down Syndrome Awareness Day, I encourage everyone to listen to David’s and Bethany’s recordings, take part in wearing odd socks, spread awareness on social media, participate in local events, or simply take the time to learn more about Down Syndrome and how we can be better allies."
