Thank You for the video. You're the only person that has mentioned calibrating the system first before aligning. The suggestion with the tape on the legs was very good as I always set the legs out to the maximum forgetting that my wife is a foot shorter than I am. I start letting her play along with me from now on.

i got my 6se last summer. I spent the entire summer trying to align it to be able to use the go to computer. I read through stacks of directions, asked questions in blogs, and watched countless terrible "you tube" videos on how to do it because no matter what i did, i could not align this thing. after a few evenings out I managed to get it to say "alignment complete" and with great excitement hit the button to take me to the moon ( just a quick first command). The telescope started moving on its own, doing its thing, and it stop. It stopped on the opposite side of the sky. Disappointed i completely gave up. Being a first-time scope user i was just excited to look at Saturn and the moon and things of the sort. I tried a couple times later in the season to align again and never could do it. So, in the frigid cold of northern PA i have retired the scope for the winter and decided to learn more about it before spring comes. This is the first video on my curriculum, and you sir are a genius. You see in all my trying and learning not one resource ever told me about the calibration part. Thank you so very much, you have been my #1 teacher and now my mentor. You are awesome and your video was nice and informative and easy for beginners to understand. Thank you

Thanks for putting these videos out there, I'm getting a lot out of them and I'm thinking I will get the 8SE as soon as I can build up the funds. I also like your video that shows the wedge you built. I think with the close-ups you have on that video I should be able to build my own. The fine adjustment knob you have on the wedge looks good. I think there must be a lot of people out there like me that is interested in your wedge, maybe after I build mine I will also make a video on how to build one. I really don't see anywhere on KZitem anyone showing dimensions and how to build one. But your video does have one of the best views of it and should be fairly simple to copy. So, another big thanks to you!!

Thanks so much for this video. I just received mine 2 days ago. Of course the weather is yukky and I have aches and pains associated with the cold, but I did manage to take it out tonight. The scope is to die for. so cool, now I just have to remember to focus with it. I did manage to find the moon without too much trouble, now to focus. Kinda funny tho, I had just mentioned to my daughter I wished it had the GOTO button, and then you showed me how to activate it. I cant wait to see what I can see with it. My only trouble is it is too heavy for someone like myself with very bad knees. Once again, thanks for this video

Your video is just what I was looking for..... either it's not in the manual, I missed it.... and certainly no one told me to calibrate before trying to align. The manual says it's ok to use planets to align.... but this is not recommended per many forums. I've been to a small star party and an astrophotographer for help.... and both events were disasters in terms of me being humiliated and frustrated by their egos and my insecurity. Can't wait to try again ;-)

Just bought a second hand 6 se(my first proper scope) and it is a beauty. in the instruction manual on Star Pointer operation it tells you how to use it and after that in bold, quote, Remember to remove the plastic cover over the battery and always turn the power off after you have found an object. This will extend the life of both the battery and the LED, unquote, Question? Why does leaving the cover on drain power? it is there to protect surely? am going to remove when not in use and replace when in use to be safe. Excellent Tutorial, I built mine with you instructing, many thanks.

Really enjoyed this video, I am just starting and trying to decide which Telescope to buy. I think it would be helpful if you could also walk us through a photography setup,. I know there is a tilt feature on the 6SE to stay in alignment, not sure I understand this. Thanks again are you still satisfied with the 6SE ?
@nasanction
6 жыл бұрын
The "Tilt feature" you are referring too is an equatorial wedge placed under the scope to create the proper polar alignment in Equatorial mode. That is better for tracking and photography. You just setup "Equatorial Mode" in the controller and your good to go. Celestron has one for sale, or DIY Build one your self.

Thank you! I keep telling people to use a higher magnification eyepiece to align their finder scopes because if you use a 23mm or above and then if a person switches to a 9mm or higher, then the field of view changes and the object your looking at will not be in the field of view. Plus eyepieces vary in FOV. :)

Yes, you can use it for astrophotography with the propper equipment. To answer your second question I will say that, yes you can see planets, stars, double stars, nebulae and even the andromeda galaxy, it all depends on how dark is the sky in your site. Thanks for wathing and commenting!!

Baltier, What type or make Web Cam & adapter do you recommend? Is the quality of capture very good? I downloaded a free 30 day trial program called Snag-it, it allows you to freeze a video frame and capture the particular frame you want out of the video once the video is captured to your computer, it works great, I also captured this You Tube video with Snag-it for reference, it copies video with sound also. When I get my 8se scope to set up at a site I will use your video as a reference with my laptop in the field....Have you tried a 2x or 3x Barlow with your eye pieces? What about using a Baader 8 to 24X zoom eyepiece instead of individual eye pieces? Your opinion is greatly appreciated....Thanks!

To make a fake alignment on this telescope the best and easiest way I found was to do a Solar Align. If you are doing it during the day just go outside and roughlly track the position of the sun. Then come back inside your house and fake pint to the sun as your alignment solar system object. This should work but remember not to pint the telescope to the sun for real if you don't have the propper filter. Thanks for watching and clear skies!

Im looking to buy a telescope and i have been looking at this one. I don't know much but i want a good telescope that can look at a lot more than the moon. Is this telescope powerful enough to zoom far into the moon but also look at other planets and deep sky? Is the picture of a cassegrain high quality, or is a refractor a higher Quality picture?

8SE is much heavier. Also it will have bigger range (you can use magnification around 200-250x max for visual, for SE 150-200x is max)

Comets will never be added to the object database, as they are relatively fast-moving transient phenomena and are only visible for a limited time while they are within the solar system, approaching or leaving the vicinity of the sun.
