Great rivalry. I'm so glad that the Celtics won and Larry Bird was my favorite basketball player throughout the 1980's and early 1990's. I have never liked the Lakers either. Still don't.

Growing up back then....it was a VERY different world. I remember my cousins and I would walk from Mattapan to Dorchester as kids. It wasjust something you could do back then. NO WAY you'd let your kids do that now.

Hey - I worked at Durgin's in '84 too - mostly in the basement Oyster Bar. I was there from '83-'88 - bussing & shucking. I wasn't at Durgins for this Game 7 but I saw Flutie's Miracle in Miami pass in the Gaslight Pub on the street level. Very sad to see the restaurant close. Lots of good memories and I learned a lot about life there.

Don Gaston was an absentee owner. He let Red run the team, which worked well until it didn’t, basically. The last good move Red made was drafting Reggie Lewis in 1987, even if he wasn’t a franchise player, a year after having drafted Len Bias. His son Paul took over ownership in the 90s, after Red had basically retired (he was still team president, until the Pitino fiasco), and his tenure was pretty disastrous. People used to call him “Thanks Dad.”

@@gregoryphillips3969 that 86 Celtics team would have demolished the Lakers in the finals. Larry swept Magic in the season matchups that year. To me, that 86 team is the greatest I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, a Len Bias overdose prevented another decade of Celtics dominance and the wheels literally fell off for the Celtics in 1988.

Lol they didn't really let them, they pretty much over powered the security and rushed the court, not much you can do, if you want to get trampled to death, 1986 was alot better, they beefed up the security, some fans ran the court but it wasn't mobbed like 1984.
