M/Ss and C/Us of a carved and coloured concrete mural at Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, showing a modern and quite geometric design of figures.
M/Ss and C/Us of industrial designer William Mitchell at work in his studio in Forest Hill, South London. He is cutting shapes out of clay from beneath a wooden grid; commentator says the design is first worked out in a clay matrix. Patrick Wemhen enters and pours cement over the grid square William has been working on. A wire mesh is placed on top of the cement to reinforce it, then another layer of cement is smoothed over with a trowel.
M/S of art designer David Millett mixing some polyester resin to a pigmented plastic glaze; many large containers and test tubes of coloured liquid are seen on the workbench before him. C/U as he mixes a red colour in a pot. William comes into shot and takes the red pot and a yellow one. C/U of Patrick's hands as he pulls the clay from the dried cement; panning right to show William pouring the red polyester resin over another section of the mural. M/S of the two men working; High angle M/S as William drizzles the yellow colour over the red; panning right to show another section of the mural, coloured in blue, green and purple. Commentator tells us this is part of a mural being prepared for a London County Council block of flats in Bermondsey, South London. C/Us of sections of the mural.
M/Ss and C/U of the mural from the start of the story. Commentator says "In case it's a little too modern for some tastes, let's give you a brief introduction to an offshoot of this art, this time in wood", as we see M/Ss and C/Us of William pouring resin onto a large square of wood while David polishes a large wooden board to reveal a carved design. C/Us of a carved, modern rosewood table; M/S and C/U of a cocktail cabinet with a modern abstract flower design on the doors.
Note: No print for this issue. On file are notes about the artists and processes shown, plus an article from 'Impulse' magazine by William Mitchell called 'Art Integration Through Murals'.
