nudity is a symbol of purity in japan especially if its a little kid. they also did this in Earthbound and the other mother games. its supposed to be a symbol of innocence and whatnot. though im pretty sure its ONLY taken that way if its a child

When I saw Misty's tears japanese card, the first thing that crosed my mind was that she was naked and "hugging" her Staryu because the card was suposed to be a metaphore of how she connects to water Pokémon, to the point that she understand them and feel what they feel. I think she is nude because Pokémon don't wear clothes, and it's suposed to mean that humans and Pokémon aren't that different to each other (think of the Sinnoh myth which talks about Pokémon marrying humans because humans are tha same thing as Pokémon. It's imposible to say if they draw the card like that just for the fanservice or not (it IS Japan after all, and lolicon jokes aside, it's no lie that their culture doesn't have as much problems sexualizing girls as USA's). But I like to think that I'm right with my asumption on the above paragraph. It's kinda deep.

Check it homie, in Japan, nudity is considered to show the person as being pure at the moment. This is in essence that Misty, as you said, is showing her pure emotional connection to her Pokemon. For example, in the Magicant section of Earthbound/Mother 2, Ness is nude in the Japanese version. We don't have the same symbolism of nudity in Hamburgerland, so it was replaced.

Actually, one should notice that the nudity issue is cultural as well. Nudity in art is a symbol of true connection and honest mind set. Misty crying in the nude is meant as "she really feels for the staryu there" Western civilization assumes nudity as shameful, but it's quite different in Japan.

That statement is irrelevant to the video; by default, the cards aren't real since they are pieces of fiction. Additionally, the influence that Pokemon can have on the children who play it is potentially enormous; it would be irresponsible to allow what might be acceptable in other cultures to make its way to children who should not be exposed to such content at their age.

Just for the record, the "Buddhist symbol" on that card is still called a swastika, and it's an important religious symbol for pretty much any Asian/Indian religion It's meaning is, as you said, a symbol for peace (and also good luck and other spiritual stuff) but it dates back even farther than you mentioned, going back as far as the Neolithic age (over 12000 years ago) The Nazi's ruin everything Seriously, groups have tried to take back the swastika's original meaning, but all of them are immediately labeled as fascists, even if their actions clearly are the opposite of that Also, I have a Japanese version of Misty's tears, I don't know where I got it from (I remember just always having it) and I never saw a problem with it, my parents never saw a problem with it, and I was 7 years old

All of these censored cards were really just images of 'appropriate-inappropriate' themes and actions. You could take the Misty's Tears card with her being in the nude as a symbol of pureness, considering the humans most pure form is nude. With the Grimer card, it's again an 'appropriate-inappropriate' image which jokes around with perverse ideas, probably making a statement on perverts being like Grimer (filthy and such). The 'swastika' was explained already. And the moo-moo milk is a different art style all together which is strange, it sort of looks like how old folktales were drawn in shows or in books. There's no real reason for it to have been depicted that way, maybe the artists couldn't think of anything else.

The tip of feeding-bottles (the ones used for infants to drink of) is designed to resemble a nipple, because that's what infants instinctively try to suckle. It makes perfect sense to design them that way, and that's what it's like in the real world. Also, you do realize that most young children (at least in earlier years) are breastfed? It's just a few years since the youngest Pokemon-fans were breastfed themselves, so I don't see why it should be so bad for them to see a nipple. (That is hysteria on the grown up people's side. Breasts were designed for nurturing infants, not for grown-ups to be aroused. The censoring of nipples is ridiculous.)
@antlant329
11 жыл бұрын
Goblineng But then how do we explain the tribes, societies, and cultures who DON'T have a breast-fixation? It is mostly a phenomenon in western culture, which hasn't been around long enough for it to be much more than a way of thinking that is implemented in children when growing up, in recent times. And if it's an evolutionary advantage, it should somehow helps with breeding, and looking for an ideal mate. Which doesn't make sense, because breasts come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and you can't determine with certainty whether the breasts will be especially "good" at breastfeeding based on size and shape. (Also, the "ideal" breasts are usually breasts that're a result of plastic surgery, which hasn't been around for more than a century.)
@TheTummiez
11 жыл бұрын
Goblineng I have heard theories also that male interest in women with large breasts is based on the idea of them as excess reserves of fat in a woman's body. So that if she were pregnant and there was some kind of environmental conflict like a famine, her baby would be able to survive longer inside her womb without food than in that of a woman who had less fat reserves to nourish the baby in the event of troubles. So, from a male perspective, the idea is that your offspring has a greater chance of being born healthy if its mother has larger breasts. That being said, that is not the same thing as the sexualization and fetishization of womens' breasts in the western world. Sexuality and reproduction obviously intersect in some places, but they are far from the same thing at all.

JWittz two things: Firstly, the bottle with the cow nipples is used in real life when breeding calves. The guy on the card is a Pokemon Breeder so it makes sense he would use that on the baby Sentret. Dressing the feeding bottle with patterns of a real cow helps the young become familiar with its own kind. They do this for other animals like bears and penguins raised in captivity. The caretakers often disguise as the animal so they don't grow attached to humans and can later be integrated with their own kind. Secondly, your t-shirt is wrong. Magikarp would swear to Arceus, not God. Essentially Arceus fills the same role, being the creator of both humans and Pokemon in this universe, bringing up the question: did humans evolve from a Pokemon like how in our world we evolved from a proto-ape? I bet humans in the Pokemon world evolved from Mew. It would explain why humans and Pokemon bond so well and their familial connection. Anyhow, just saying. They have created the stuff to substitute real life countries, cultures and deities, they might as well use it for consistency purposes. That's the reason we never saw real-life animals in the anime after the first seasons, because they wanted to keep the universe consistent.

but who created arceus...mew...?
@VerneditheSnail
10 жыл бұрын
Jason Brody Nobody created Arceus in their universe, he was just born from a cosmic egg in a vortex of chaos. Arceus was the first one, who then created Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. The trio created space and time. Arceus then created the Lake trio Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf so they these guys could create the soul, emotions, and knowledge of newer and lesser beings. Mew was then created and from it all other Pokemon (excluding all artificial Pokemon) branched evolved. The first to appear after Mew were the pre-historic ones like Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Lileep, Tyrunt, etc. From these dinosaur Pokemon branched evolved the present day ones over hundreds of generations. If you ask yourself where Arceus came from, do the same for your deity.

I am starting to understand why so few scandinavian movies have made it to America. The things mentioned in this video are innocent compared to some of the weird shit I grew up with here in Denmark. Some of the swedish children's movies contained both nudity and sex... and we are talking about child actors down to the age of 12...

In my country Estonia, there's a children's book called "Mari ja Mikk" (Mari and Mikk), or something like that, and it's about a girl and a boy playing outside naked. One line states how Mikk has a little sausage and Mark has a hole, that they ejaculate out of. There's a picture of Mari squatting. It's still in my school libary, it's an "classic", from the soviet times in 1970 or around that time.

Nope, that is a swastika. The swastika is a symbol, not the symbol of the nazis, but a symbol. every nazi symbol is a swastika, but not every swastika is a nazi symbol. Trust me. Looking up a girl's skirt is just as creepy here in Japan as it is in the states. The thing is that women wear more skirts over here, especially with the school uniforms, and thus it's more commonplace. There's also less action taken. I'd think that in America, many women wouldn't have a problem with dragging that piece of sludge to the police. (And I'm not talking about Grimer.) But in Japan, it's more embarrassing and shameful for the woman to speak up about it, and therefore, it often goes unreported and not dealt with in any manner. Thus, more people get away with doing it, thus it happens more frequently, thus it becomes a trope.

I've owned all those cards. Misty IS nude, the grimer IS looking up her skirt and I get the moomoo milk as well, which I also owned. That's how you feed young animals sometimes when they'really young. It makes sense to how It's typically used. The other weird change with the Japanese to the English versions is the Erica gym leader card. I proffered the Japanese one because of the art. It was holofoil.

Ah, yes, Misty's Tears. I distinctly remember having that card back in the day, and I was able to confirm to my friends that the urban legend of a nude Misty card did, in fact, exist. Even if we're really stretching the definition of nudity. I'm not sure how I got it, but I did have one of the Japanese ones. I remember buying some Japanese card, mostly Neo, some Gym Leaders and Rocket. I'm betting it came from Gym Leaders, which is probably how I got it. Heck, if I actually went digging hard enough through my mother's basement, I just might be able to find it again.
