Texas Public Utility Commission: (Google the number) PUC won't be much help with this outage, except that it puts your complaint into the public record. Be sure to state that your complaint is not that you don't have power, but rather Centerpoint continuously fails to provide the infrastructure and resources needed to communicate with the public. They refuse to build a basic website that can communicate with their customers in the middle of an outage. They don't provide enough call center people to take phone calls, they don't disseminate basic information to employees to pass on to customers. (Not to mention they can't provide reliable service). Your call to PUC won't fix your problem today, but by getting your complaint into the public record, it makes it harder for the politicians to claim "there is no problem, the grid is working great". It's not working great. It's terrible. It's fragile, unreliable, and more expensive to the consumer than it has to be.

What a lot of people don't understand is that your house and some around you might look just fine. But a few blocks away might be a house or secondary lines that if energized might start a fire or kill someone. Every single service drop and house behind a given transformer or line fuse must be inspected and pronounced good before the section can be energized. A service drop might look good, but if there is a tree that went through the roof, energizing that customer could start a fire or even kill someone inside. They have to be totally disconnected (not just trip a breaker that anyone can reset). Imagine this for every house that is out. This requires thousands of qualified people coordinating with dispatch or a supervisor that has been given dispatch authority. If an area is flooded, they can't always get to where they can inspect the connection.

The lack of cell service here, plus outages all the way north almost to DALLAS, is complete BS and feels almost intentionally negligent (or worse). Considering the Houston authorities were quick to mislead people in the press conference Sunday, claiming they were totally prepared for this storm and that they’d seen worse (but they can’t handle a little Cat 1). Again, this was a Cat 1 hurricane and barely at that (upgraded right before landfall). My family has lived in Houston for 35+ years and seen plenty of much stronger storms come through here without 5+ days of power outages.

Have centerpoint and entergies corporate heads on a platter . Where are the convoys of out town and state utility trucks that I have always witnessed in the last 60 plus years . Never have I seen such a sparse group of workers for such a mess. I don’t doubt the workers are doing all they can …..there just aren’t enough of them . All I’ve seen are a few small convoys of tree trucks . These corporate blood suckers were way late to this catastrophe.

Crazy stuff. 92 deg on the thermostat, and that’s at 2 am. No lines down or any visible damage to them around me for a couple miles. We’ve walked them ourselves. Across the street is Entergy, and they’ve had their power back for 3 days now.

The people of this city who are sweltering in this heat, with no air or power of any kind, should plan a trip up to the Capital in Austin and city hall here. There should NOT be repair trucks filling up parking lots anywhere in the city. Who gives these people their "orders'? Seriously, who are they taking direction from? God help us all if we get hit with a stronger hurricane again this season. And yes, I understand that many are here working long hours and overnight, and came from other locations, but not until after the storm had passed. They weren't here prior to it. Oh, and that's right, our governor isn't even here!

Funny thing, too all the negative commenters on here, once your power comes on, and all the line trucks are gone, you’ll move on and forget all about it. Most won’t even take a second to thank the linemen that relieved you of your misery. God bless the linemen and hopefully everyone has power back soon. Get yourself prepared for the next big storm as well. Mother Nature doesn’t care how much money is put into the grid, she’ll eat it up in no time if she wants to.

Actually thats their job is to restore power and if the ppl who are over them would communicate with the weather forecasters...they would always be ready and have what they need here in ADVANCE...we are thankful for what they do..but the process needs to be corrected as it is definitely faulty!

This afternoon I watched a crew restoring power to my neighbors. The problem was a large tree had split at the top and a big section was resting on a power pole and transformer. These guys had to remove all of the branches and LARGE limbs before they could even get to the problem. They were working 40 ft in the air and the risk of injury was very real. I didn't see them goofing off they just got on with their dangerous work. I wish I had filmed it so all you folks who are down on the power companies could see what they have to do before they even can get to the problem. Just a note, we were without power for a week after Ike. Also don't worry your Governor had a/c over in Korea and I'm sure your Senator had plenty of a/c also.

They are probably using this as an experiment to see how long it will take for people to descend into chaos and anarchy without power during a situation like a heatwave. They are intentionally dragging this out longer than it needs to be.
