In this eleventh video in the series on central Moreton Bay I am looking at Green Island.
So far Green Island has escaped the green zone onslaught and remains a viable fishing spot.
There are reef areas on the west and north, but I have never actively targeted them. The reef to the east is generally where I fished. I often preferred a spot a little over halfway down the island but the drop off anywhere along the reef can produce the goods.
What did I forget to include in the video?
• Possible Bait: I meant to explain that I mark “possible bait” if I find a reasonable bait school somewhere. If I find it a few times in the same area it becomes “probable bait” and if I find it regularly it is marked as a “bait ground”. These marks at green island have been located once so they are possible. If I do not find any bait the next couple of times, I am in the area I will delete the marks.
• Most likely fish to catch. In the video I said I thought Snapper was a more likely catch than Sweetlip but on reflection it might be the other way around, pretty close race to call in my experience.
• There are weed beds around Green where many people report catching Squid. Since I have only started jigging for squid recently, I do not have any knowledge of them, but I do intend to go looking one day.
• I did shoot some squid with the bow and arrow when the big boat was anchored off the west of Green, but I do not recall them as being as plentiful as they were elsewhere.
• As I recall the spot I mentioned at about time code 4:20 fished better with a bit of run in the water but I can't remember if it was the run it or run out tide.
