Hosted by the Centre for Religion in Society.
Fr Luke Larner, priest and activist in the Church of England, discusses the issues of class, solidarity and the Church. Following the announcement that Unite, for the first time, has submitted a pay claim to the Church of England on behalf of the union's clergy members, we are exploring the theme of solidarity and class in Christianity and how the Church needs to recognise its own classed culture and structures. Is there a renewed class consciousness amongst clergy and congregations? What does solidarity and being organised look like in the Church? Is there such a thing as 'working-class theology'?
Fr Luke's edited book 'Confounding the Mighty: Stories of Church, Social Class and Solidarity' was published in August.
Fr Luke Larner is an ordained priest in the Church of England and is currently studying for a doctorate in Practical Theology, researching with Christians involved in Community Organising.
