In this video we replace the magneto and fit 6 new spark plugs to one side of the main engine. We then bump start the ARV with the Foden SAS Landrover arrives AMX 13 arrives
My working theory is that Ted is actually a white dog covered in engine oil from being petted all the time. Another great episode, don't ever try to get too polished and professional. Now in the right frame of mind to take the starter motor and lift pump off the tractor. I realise where I have been going wrong with my mechanical work is the lack of suitable head wear.

I mind being on the back decks of a Cent arv in Batus in the 80s, when the engine went up in flames whilst it was pulling my brocken down Chieftain. You've never seen tankies jump off the side of moving vehicle so fast in your life...honestly though it was going to go boom but tge Reme driver pulled the fire extinguishers and then we all had to await a further double recovery....in a red template...squeaky bum time!!

I’ve restored a Cent and I’ve a lot of respect for them, so I gotta say that was absolutely brutal to watch. Maybe cut back on the crowd-pleasing torch, hammer, and setting stuff on fire technique?
@MrHewes
Жыл бұрын
There’s a good reason I torched the fuel tanks out, the official way is to remove the exhaust branch manifold, however they are extremely fragile and hard to replace, I would never run a cent with belly fuel tanks because they are known for back firing. Also without the belly tanks it allows for regular maintenance, you may have “restored” a cent but I actually use these things a lot not just paint them and park them in a shed for 25 years. The GUE had seized up solid because the spark plugs had rotted though. With powerful modern Batterys it’s totally pointless anyway. Especially in an ARV. If you haven’t had to use a Torch on a centurion you haven’t worked on one that has been abandoned out in the elements for 30 years.
@bigold81electra
Жыл бұрын
I agree with removing belly tanks and pup engine, they just get in the way, so we did that. Just didn’t involve so much torching and bashing with a hammer.😊 The one we restored was ex-Canadian army, 1952, parked outside since mid 70’s so getting on 50 years. We’re a museum with about 80 running vehicles and we drive them around regularly for the public. The old girl runs like a charm. Doesn’t backfire! The only reason I might consider putting a pup engine back in is the power traverse draws about 150 amps when going full bore during shows and even with 4 batteries they get dragged down pretty quick. I use a torch all the time, nothing to beat it for freeing up rusty shit. Malcolm

love the videos and boyish banter - feel the love haha - completes my weekend quite shocked you didn't have the marshmallows at hand - slackers Seb has an OBE, they give them to anyone don't they, nothing means he's of any use unless he does a good brew back in the day i knew a chap who was semi-retired from them SAS boys - in the day he was one of the chaps in the back garden during the Iranian siege handcuffing all who came out the back door ready for processing, i.e. those who should be there and known by staff and those who were up to no good - apparently them there SAS boys asked the police very nicely if they could borrow there nice new shiny 72 seat coach as they could get everyone and their kit onboard (i believe at the time the bus was used by a London police band, band of what i don't know) apparently them police said no, so the nice boys from Hereford went and repossessed it - there had been some discussion about who owned it, the police thought they did (natural mistake to make really) and the Hereford lads thought it belonged to someone called EIIR which of course means its theirs - i often wonder how true the story was, it sounds very likely, and the way it was told to me sounded very genuine, but either way still a funny story - i got a load of those
