Jumpin' Jesus; are you kiddin' me? Perfectly flown. Get hot oil into the propeller dome by cycling the prop, then the mag check. Before takeoff, set flaps to 20 degrees, tighten friction on throttle and propeller, roll a few feet insuring centering tailwheel lock, smoothly advance throttle to full, double checking friction lock. Proper attitude on takeoff roll. Signed, 'The Feeble Rat' ATP/CIFI

boy if you have an engine out during take off your going to be sawing lumber!!! with no soft place to put it down . On the other side Landing appears to be very dicey also. Not much room for a go around / do over approach. Damn good Pilot

@OneTequilaTwoTequila
3 жыл бұрын
So many mods I'd put on before an IO-550. Okay if the TBO of your engine has run out anyway, but the guys that go spending boatloads of $$$ on an engine upgrade to get 15hp added to the max continuous hp are just throwing money away if they don't have all the STOL mods on it, which are a lot cheaper and produce greater gains. An IO-520D produces 300hp for 5 minutes anyway. Who runs around at full power beyond 5 minutes anyway?

Rick, I love seeing old MAF 185’s Flying. I’m an MAF MK from Papua, Indonesia (‘83-‘91). My dad is headed out to Kalimantan in a few weeks to creat up the last 185. It’s the end of an era. The Kodiak is very impressive but the 185 is a classic.
