Grew up on Long Island and where we fished there was a guy that used to get picked up by a float plane. Caught quite a few good sized striped bass around that dock.

This a great niche operation. Utilizing ALL modes to get in and out of NYC. Tailwind is now about to open a ‘DC’ run.

It's just not as impressive to land on a New York river with an engine still running.

Err, Tailwind Air fly 12 roundtrip flights a day during weekdays from april to september. Flying out of manhattan to places like sag harbor, boston harbor, bridgeport and shelter island. Weekends they fly less but during that 6 months people routinely travel into and out of NYC on floatplanes. There are also other companies flying, a seaplane landing in the east river is not a rarity anymore. Sure, things took a hit in the early 2000's for obvious reasons but we are back to normal now, personally I think this is a good thing, we cannot let our fears rule us.
