French is very easy if you speak good or fluent English since there are a lot of similarities especially in the vocabulary it’s so similar that a lot of words are identical except for the pronunciation. All you need to do is learn around a 100 verbs and a 100 words then it’ll be smooth sailing from that point on. But the most important thing is that you learn basic pronunciation first like vowels, vowel combinations and how to pronounce “r”. Also don’t get discouraged by not understanding spoken French in the beginning because they speak so fast that words blend into each other and sentences sound like three words but you’ll get to it by practice But speaking and reading are very easy once you get the hang of it. I wish you the best of luck

I don't mean to be offensive, but as far as translations go some if this is somewhat inaccurate. I am only saying this because I see people commenting that they are inspired to learn french on this video and on comments on other videos that give a similar translation, and I wouldn't want them to start off with inaccuracies. I don't think the person who translated this was a native French speaker, or if they were then perhaps they weren't well versed enough in English to capture some of the subtleties as well as fixed expressions of the French language. I have to disclaim this saying I am not a native French speaker myself, but I do have enough understanding to see some of the inaccuracies here and enough confidence in my French language skills to offer some corrections. Again, I really don't mean to offend the person who made this translation. I don't even know if that is the person who made this video. It could be that they got this from somewhere else and everyone is just copying each other, sharing a single source's translation. I appreciate the effort they made to make this translation and the effort the maker of this video made, and I am sure it is all an expression of them appreciating and wanting to share this song and the meaning of it. I am just a little concerned about people who are using this to learn French. Moreover, this not in the slightest being the first time I see a translation of this song like this, I feel that it should be addressed (to be honest I was hoping to find a French native speaker doing this, but I guess they have no need for a translation to English so they probably don't look for videos like these).

I guess what I am saying is, if you want to use a translation of a song to learn the language from, make sure you search for more than 1 translation, to get a better grasp of certain subtleties in the language. Seeing how different people tackle the translation of the same text can be very helpful. Translations always involve choices, because there is no way to perfectly grasp all the subtleties of the text in the original language in a translation. This is why comparing different translations helps you understand those subtleties a little better. I'll post one I found a while ago to get you started. This translation isn't perfect either, it's just a different perspective that I hope you will find helpful: My sleepless nights are not white, barely clear Mes nuits blanches ne sont pas blanches, à peine claires Star sown Semées d'étoiles Small holes in the waterproof canvas Petits trous dans la toile étanche Sad strata on the veil Tristes strates sur le voile And me, bewitched by darkness Et moi, envoutée de ténèbres I spend endless hours Je passe des heures infinies Counting the funerary sheep À compter les moutons funèbres Who are lurking my insomnia Qui tapissent mes insomnies Ah midnight is here Ah minuit est là Ah I do not sleep Ah je ne dors pas And the less I sleep, the more I think Et moins je dors et plus je pense And the more I think and the less I forget Et plus je pense et moins j'oublie The huge impasse, the immense space L'immense impasse, l'espace immense That stretch at the bottom of my bed Qui s'étendent au fond de mon lit It is unheard of all these silences C'est inouï tous ces silences That it is cosmic this boredom Qu'il est cosmique cet ennui Do I have to resort to science? Dois-je recourir à la science? Anesthetize insomnia? Anesthésier l'insomnie? Ah midnight is here Ah minuit est là Ah I do not sleep Ah je ne dors pas And then past midnight I dance Et puis passé minuit je danse To the rhythm of tachycardias Au rythme des tachycardies And everything is racing and all balance Et tout s'emballe et tout balance And everything flopped and everything fled Et tout m'étale et tout me fui The moon is a little rancid La lune est un fruit un peu rance Life is a disease La vie est une maladie Those who dream are very lucky Ceux qui rêvent ont bien de la chance Others have insomnia Les autres ont des insomnies Those who dream are very lucky Ceux qui rêvent ont bien de la chance Others have insomnia Les autres ont des insomnies Those who dream are very lucky Ceux qui rêvent ont bien de la chance As for me, I have insomnia Quant à moi j'ai des insomnies Ah midnight is here Ah minuit est là Ah I do not sleep Ah je ne dors pas Ah midnight is here Ah minuit est là Ah I do not sleep Ah je ne dors pas

Sometimes people do somewhat of an inaccuracy in lyric translations to make it sound better.
@cthulu2433
4 жыл бұрын
@@fakename3440 absolutely, and that is completely fine too. That wasn't my concern either. This was just a comment meant for people who intend to use translated lyrics for language learning. Just a fair warning to use more than one source of translation if you can when language learning is your goal.
