Greetings from Florida, I love your channel! I just have a question about the FOI section of the ACS; are lesson plans allowed? It doesn’t expressly say so, but it does say that the applicant should “provide effective instruction”, which kind of requires a plan of action (a lesson plan)

I'm currently a truck driver/aspiring student pilot. Hoping to start my actual flight training this October. Fulfilling a lifelong dream at 49 years of age. I've quickly realized from my past job experiences I do really enjoy imparting knowledge and seeing others grow. I now realize that an excellent way to fulfill that enjoyment and earn money to support the habit of my lifelong dream of flying, would be to become a CFI. I'm glad I found your channel and the information you bring does help to connect dots and solidify the things that I'm going over through the aeronautical handbook. Many other great resources as well. I know I do have a couple hurdles right out of the gate to jump as far as getting my medical cert. Sounds like I'll be needing a special issuance and that sounds like that could take quite some time to clear. Got to love government pace. I also know that I won't be teaching anyone until I'm confidently competent. I have no idea just yet how long this journey will take me, but I know one thing for sure, you never know how far the ball will go until you kick it! Thanks You for this awesome informative and inspiring channel.

It's not too late! I'm 55, and it will be about my 4th career (two military). MOSAIC rules may change all your medical issues and wipe them all away. You would be able to get and use a CFI/II. Wouldn't be able to exercise commercial privileges though, but you could still charge as a CFI.

I took a Discovery Flight recently and here is a question if you'd be kind to answer. The flight instructor was super nice, but the plane (172s Cessna with G1000) was beat up. The dash material was completely ripped off, right hand tire grooves had dry-rod. The tire on the right did not match the the tire on the left. The HDG on the dash was not working as it had a Red cross mark .The plane was was super dirty inside and out. And, they told me that they only had (1) 172S out of (5) in running order. Should I be concerned?

Hey, regarding slow flight.. didn't you miss the fact that they added a completely new slow flight maneuver to the CFI ACS? Under Task X.B, one of the skills is to maintain an airspeed at which any increase in AoA would result in an IMMEDIATE stall (so flying at minimum controllable airspeed basically)... Skill AI.X.B.S4c
@fly8ma.comflighttraining199

I actually cover the standards at which slow flight is being defined in the ACS at 7:09 in the video. The skill you are referring to is just the task of flying the maneuver in the clean configuration.

Why in singe engine airplanes (in multi engine too) don't use stopwatch for achieve V1 start at release breaks, to ensure expected airplane performance? In single engine V1 & time: would be set as Vr - 5kts or less if runway is short, then V1 would be point for safely reject takeoff. (example, someone become sick during take-off) there were accidents because engine did not had proper performance. and pilot realized that too late for reject takeoff. And also in muli engine was accident because pilots set wrong takeoff power and runway ended before Vr. preflight calculations was ok. I assume calculation will be complex, but with smartphones and tablets, simple app with profile for your airplane would do everything. Just put current conditions like temperature, pressure, dewpoint, runway length&slope, weight&balance, runway surface, and program would calculate V1 Vr, time, distance for takeoff, accelerate stop, etc.

Hey , as a student pilot with over 100 hours logged, I’ve encountered some roadblocks in my training. Despite being soloed, I’m still struggling with maneuvers, particularly crosswind landings. My new instructor, who’s of ATP quality, has a different teaching approach, which has been challenging for me. He even suggested that maybe aviation isn’t for everyone. I’m feeling discouraged and considering quitting. Do you have any advice or encouragement for me? I’d greatly appreciate any ideas or insights you might have!
@ProWithABow231
5 ай бұрын
Firstly, the fact that you have soloed is proof enough that you are capable of being a pilot to some degree. All of us start with solos, then comes instrument cross countries, then come the lazy eights and chandelles. It’s just one challenge after another. The key is to find a way that helps you learn to overcome these roadblocks and keep moving forward. For example, I was having trouble remembering certain acronyms because the order of them didn’t make sense to me. So, I came up with a new acronym to help me. Certain maneuvers can be difficult to master. Remember, you are a student pilot, you are still learning. There is nothing wrong with that. My suggestion, is possibly look into finding another instructor that may encourage you more/ fit your learning style a little better. If you think that’s what is holding you back.
@alexalikhasi2859

Thank you for your assistance! The instructor is undeniably skilled, yet his standards are remarkably high. His background as the top performer at the ATP school speaks volumes. Witnessing his ability to land a plane in a 25-knot crosswind is truly impressive, reminiscent of a mosquito delicately landing on a birthday cake. However, his idealism may pose challenges, complicating my responsibilities. Alternatively, perhaps my perception is skewed. I find myself in a state of confusion.
@fly8ma.comflighttraining199

As a student pilot your personal minimums will obviously not be the same as someone who has been flying for a while. It takes time and practice to be able to land in a 25knt crosswind. Don't get discouraged. Just because the instructor is skilled does not mean he is the right instructor for you.

Now that the PTS/ACS are regulatory, the applicant and examiner have no discretion whatsoever. Henceforth, it will take a petition for exemption to get around what's in the PTS/ACS. This will have unintended consequences.
@fly8ma.comflighttraining199

The ACS has been in use since 2016 and has shown to sufficiently gauge students pilots knowledge and skills. The PTS left much subjectivity up to the different examiners for each assessment area. Vague statements on how a pilot would exhibit sufficient knowledge of test elements have now been clearly defined with specific points within the ACS.

You should get a grace period! This is one of the reasons I stopped at commercial although I'd like to get my CFI. I decided that check rides and preparing, and weather, and the DPE can't schedule until 3 months from now, and then the plane is in annual on the only day the DPE has available. I decided for something that I'm doing for the love and fun, is so miserable I don't want to anymore.

Hello, sir. I'd like to take your advice. I have two options where to go: Pilot and engineer. But I won't be flying in the US, so a 120k+ salary is out of the question. After analyzing the data, I realized that working as a FO I will get a little more than the average salary, if not less. But a pilot spends 100k on training, 1500 hours of flight time, carries 200 lives, can lose his job due to health at any time, and spoils it throughout the job. What do you recommend?🙏🙏🙏

Aviation is as a career has to be something you are truly passionate about. There is a lot involved to become a commercial pilot so just make sure it is something you really want to do before wasting money on something you may not enjoy. I suggest doing a discovery flight before you are financially committed.
