I don't care if it makes me weeb trash. This is gorgeous.

He is playing the shakuhachi -- a traditional Japanese end-blown flute! I believe that his shakuhachi has 7 holes

I just realized his shakuhachi is the modified newer model with a few additional smaller finger holes to help better produce certain difficult notes!

Takafumi Mitsuhashi is also known as Mitsuhashi Kifu, a shakuhachi grand master. I've never known him to need a 7-hole instrument to produce any "difficult notes". I would be surprised if it were. Where do you see it on this video?

@@inlandonline My comment was by no means any disrespect or doubt to the master's abilities. I admire him greatly. It's merely an observation. At 1:39, you can see that the note F, normally requiring the meri position to play, he plays it without moving his neck. Look closely and you'll see him lifting and putting down his right hand pinky. That's evidence of additional holes. Watch more and you see extensive movement on the pinky finger, which doesn't happen with regular 5 hole shakuhachi. Great players can produce all notes at ease, but these semitone notes will never be as clear and fast as on a 7 hole flute. Choosing the 7 hole model for better clarity by no means reflects the player's lack of abilities.

@@hezixiao My curiosity increases. This performance on shakuhachi by Kozan. Very little chin movement on the low notes, if any. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xH6j359jrmqgqKg

@@inlandonline Ha I'm not sure, but watch this video for a clear look at the 7 hole shakuhachi: pink hole on the lower hand and middle finger on the upper hand are added: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yaOItnl5nWuKnJw&ab_channel=unevisualfilms
