I got to watch this beautiful program on BBC when it was first presented. It has stayed with me all these years. Thank you for the chance to see it again

27:25 Yo-Yo looks for universality of music, to find a common humanity. Music tied to its language in someway. Butterfly (representational meaning) 29:10 Yo-Yo Ma brings an composer's intentional mindset to the moment 29:50 Oral method vs notation dichtomy epitomized in this segment. Bless you for sharing this ultra-rare video with the world. For decades, Yo-Yo Ma has repeatedly cited the Kalahari Bushmen as his most profound influence, yet this document of his time with them was unavailable.

I'm glad so many people find this fascinating. I've only seen this Documentary once & fortunately, I taped it. Really glad I did now. Why these channels don't release all these documentaries is a mystery. These Documentaries were made by their creators to be seen, not to be stored on a shelf. :-)

@@edutainmentedutainment9656 It appears to have been released on VHS tape in 1993 and 1994, but, according to WorldCat, only two libraries in the world (one in Germany and another in Singapore) hold copies of this tape. Seeing as how Yo-Yo Ma is one of the most important musicians in the world, and the Bushmen may be the ancestral population of all humans living on earth today, it does make sense that Ma's journey back to his roots (as he sees it) can be shared, vicariously, by those others who are interested. www.worldcat.org/search?q=Yo-yo+Ma+and+the+Kalahari+Bushmen&qt=owc_search

@@edutainmentedutainment9656 This PBS interview with Henry Louis Gates was ostensibly supposed to be about Ma's (Chinese) heritage, but he mainly wanted to talk about his feeling of kinship with the Bushmen! kzitem.info/news/bejne/wptqs52sq39_ZI4

He also spoke about the Bushmen in this November 2020 interview in the New York Times: www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/23/magazine/yo-yo-ma-interview.html

@@dbadagna Wow! That is weird that only two libraries in the world have it. Truly Bizarre! PS Make sure you download this video just in case YT delete it for what ever reason. :-)
