I try to include a grunt worthy moment in every video. This one had more that most!

The 362 has 10 more CC's and a modern ignition/fuel system. I would expect it to cut faster. Compare the 031 to an MS 261 so it's apples to apples!

Yeah I asked him after what the 362 cc’s were and it was 10+more. I think some will enjoy my old saw running with what should be a much “better” saw. Welcome to Man Time👍

If he down sized to a 20inch bar and new chain it would be pretty much even

Great video guys but it was never going to be a fair fight. Try the 031 vs a 261. Cheers

Just refurbishing an old A31AV which cost me 60 dollars. Very easy to strip/assemble. Looking forward to firing up in a few days. Great comparison and not sure i would spend the extra money for the MS and just for a few seconds quicker! Great video - all the best and stay safe from the UK

I’m keeping my 031! Seeing the smiles after the guys get done running it reminded me why I love it. But that 362 sure made me smile lol.

The metal is actually magnesium. All the modern pro saws have magnesium crankcase and the cylinders are chromoly vs Nickasil on the farm grade or homeowners saws. Farm grade and homeowner saws have polymer crankcases and the engines are modular. Meaning the engine consists of the cylinder and the bottom of the plastic engine housing has an aluminum sump. Pro saws can have the piston and cylinders replaced if needed, modular saws are a complete new engine and more expensive to replace.

Very well explained sir. Amazing the similarities between a 50 year old saw and the pro saw of today. I wish more companies would let you pay more to keep the simplicity of design from the 60-70’s

@@Man-Time that would be nice, but unfortunately they cannot, thanks to the EPA. The machines have to evolve to meet the strict regulations the EPA has enforced. The MS360 was too dirty to meet phase 1 of the 3 phase EPA plan, so Stihl came out with the 361 to meet the regulations at the time, but it was very short lived because the next phase was coming and they had the 362 in the works already. Very sad because the 361 turned out to be one hell of a saw. What’s funny is the new 362 is the 5th or 6th revision of that saw. Looking up parts for the 362 is a nightmare because of all the revisions! Anyways, I’m just rambling. 😆 Have a great day!

The 031 av is a 50cc...put a 20ich bar and new chain on the 031 and I bet it's almost dead even.

What kind of chain are you running on that 031?
@Man-Time

Both saws were running yellow 3/8 chain. The 362 was running a Stihl chain and I had an Oregon chain. Same setup basically.

There's really no comparison in performance between the old saws and new saws. The new saws turn way more rpm's. They're faster, and lighter. It's like comparing an old car to a new car. It's not even close.
