As a professional landscape gardener I can say with absolute confidence that a chainsword scares the living shit out of me. I've used chainsaws for a long time and have grown a very healthy measure of respect for the tool. Why is the chainsaw so dangerous? Because it does not cut, it does not saw nor does it grind - it planes. Every tooth is a miniature planer that planes out a splinter of whatever material it catches onto. Oh, about the whole notion of a chainsword catching onto something and digging into it? Very much true, ironically enough the same function is relied upon to stop the chainsaw, the teeth catch onto the nylon fiber's within a pair of safety chaps/pants/overalls and clogging up the drive sprocket inside the housing. Chainsword is truly a weapon to be feared.

If there is one thing I find slightly annoying, it's the fact that almost every iteration of the greenskins in games and videos shows them having red blood, when anyone know knows the setting will tell you it's green. Right, the other thing I found interesting in this is the mention Cesare Borgia. As someone who enjoyed Assassin's Creed 2 all the way to Revelations, I found the mention of that name oddly humorous.
@Jaeger_Bishop

Imagine this. You're on the battlefield when a hulking super soldier revs-up a chainsword, then you see and hear the hi-pitched agonizing screaming of the sword slowly ripping into the guy maybe a few meters away, his screaming is the only thing loud enough to be heard over the roaring Chainsword...until only the chainsword and the gore covered wielder remain. Then...he looks at you and takes a step towards you with the weapon growling in front of him, you know full well as does everyone around you, if that weapon connects that your death will be just as slow and horrible. THAT, is the intimidation factor of the chainsword.
@anxioussamurai9017

Well said. There would certainly be a psychological component to seeing a chainsword rip through someone on the battlefield.
@spidermine7075
4 жыл бұрын
except thats not how chainswords work, every description i have read is basicly them cutting trough the target about the same as a normal blade, quick and clean. No slow grinding messy passing one might imagine to experience if a modern chainsaw was used on them. About the psychological part, that would only work on some poorly trained troopes, traitor guardsmen and maybe some young orks. tyranids, chaos marines, necron, practically immune to that. Add to that the high maintenance requirement, personally i would not pick a chainblade over normal blade. To me it seems the bad way outweight the good.

Oh! So the abundance saga ramps up! It must be a truly colossal WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!! to need both the sons of Rogal AND Dorn. Perhaps colossal enough to draw in the silver armed ones? The chain sword in my opinion is a weapon for a purpose. A power blade is for the heretic and civil xenos such as Aeldari or Necrons. A chain weapon however is for beasts. Orks. Tyranids. Daemons. Truly another symbol of the Grimdarkness .

Though in real life a chainsword would have a lot of difficulty cutting through anything close to what we’d make as armor . The idea of it is what’s important and any fictional setting requires our suspension of disbelief, 40k has always been easy to go along with even back when I got into it ( 2nd Ed. ) . So they add a lot to the grim darkness as well as non aerodynamic flyers ( which do look great ) and 1st world war style tanks with slab sides . GW found a great aesthetic in those designs and used them to access that dark part of the imagination where things are essentially brutal to build a fearsome future we’ve all come to love and enjoy so things like physics and hard sciences don’t impinge on a wonderfully bleak universe that we’ve all come to love . Thank you for another outstanding video

The chain family of weapons are the preferred melee choice for those consumed by rage and hatred. By choosing it you’re making serious sacrifices and imposing strict limits on your abilities. However you make those sacrifices because inflicting pain on your enemy is more important than practicality. It’s a weapon for those who want to punish an enemy rather than simply eliminate them. The real terror isn’t necessarily the weapon itself. The real terror is the wielder who willingly gimps themselves with a loud, fuel hungry, heavy melee weapon that suffers against armor in an effort to make their enemy’s death as unbearably agonizing as possible. Imagine the state of mind you’d have to be in to be willing to stand right in front of someone not just getting killed by your own hand, but being utterly ripped to pieces and feel nothing but contempt for your foe. Terrifying, simply terrifying.
