I de-friended a Chinese guy after a trip to Japan with him and a mutual friend. He only went to compare Japan to China and declare, again and again, how much better China is in every way. Anything that was different he made fun of, even though I thought these things were actually better in Japan. At Meiji Jingu, he pointed and laughed out loud at an elderly Japanese man who was praying at the shrine, causing many people to look and stare at him. He was constantly drawing negative attention and pushing me to anger. Immediately upon returning to China, I removed him from my contacts and blocked him. I really, really can't stand nationalists.

I've worked for 2 and a half years in a tourism company in Turkey as the digital marketing executive from 2015 to 2017 until the company went bankrupt because of the crappy events that's been happening in Turkey and the entire tourism sector went into shit. While we were still operating, the vast majority of our guests were Chinese. I have been on the tour buses and travelled with the actual tourists to understand the entire business model and observe the business in action. Most of the tour guides I've talked to would absolutely agree that the Chinese tourists were not the best kind of customers they'd like to work with. However I have not seen any group that's being collectively destroying or vandalizing anything. There were of course one or two disrespectful and annoying people on a 30+ people group and I've been to over 15 tours with them. They are mostly just people in every kind. There are polite, rude, respectful and disrespectful Chinese people as there are people from any other nation. But China is big and out of more than a billion people, there'll be more assholes than out of 300 million people. If we had a vandalizer in our Tour, we would stop report that person to the police and have that person arrested. Like every foreigner who breaks the law in China must face their Law, every Chinese foreigner must also face the law in the place they broke it and it's up to us to report any foreigner who breaks the law. These people have a vast network in we-chat. If you make an example, they'll spread it in WeChat and newer tourists or students will try to avoid it because they won't want to get arrested. Don't get me wrong, I'm not paid by CCP or anything, in fact I think Mao Zedong may just be the worst person to have ever existed. And CCP sucks. They're responsible for all the shit the world has been thru during the last one and a half year. And they are so bad that they even try to point fingers at America and blame others for their own mistake. But the People of China should not be discriminated because of there are Chinese people vandalizing. Just have the ones that do it arrested. And believe me that is the only solution.

When I lived in the USA I worked in a hotel for seven years. I dealt with people from all over the world on a daily basis, and it didn't take long to see that Chinese mainland tourists who came in groups were by far the worst kind of people I have ever encountered. They were noisy, rude, selfish, didn't respect the rules, insisted on their rights and made trouble wherever they went. They smoked in the lobby, threw cigarette butts into the fish tanks or stepped them out on the carpet. They smoked in the elevator. They propped their room doors open (which are supposed to stay closed) and ran in and out of the rooms of fellow Chinese, yelling all the time. They wouldn't move to let other guests pass, practically taking over the whole floor. Guests would ask to change rooms because they couldn't stand the racket. When I tried to control them they'd completely ignore me, they would look through me and act as if I wasn't there. Horrible people. If you want to find out about how people behave, talk to the maids who have to clean the rooms after the guests left. I did. They were cursing the mainland Chinese, most of them being Filippinas, Vietnamese or Korean. I saw rooms full of trash, packages and wrappings from things they bought, food leftovers and even half eaten fruit on the floor. I couldn't see the carpet for everything they must have dumped where they stood. Wherever I looked it was a desaster, the bathroom and even the balcony. These people behaved like animals, there's no other word for it. When groups of 40 or 50 Chinese were expected to check in or out, we needed extra staff to take care of the chaos. It's faster and way easier to check in 40 Japanese than 10 Chinese. Sometimes the whole hotel came to a standstill until they were finally gone. Chinese from Hong Kong or Taiwan were quite different, they spoke English and were way more well behaved.

I'm Chinese/Euro. mix, American born & raised. In my 67 years I've decided that there's no better place to live than the 🇺🇸 USA! This is reinforced by the fact that people from all over the world have wanted to come here to live since it's founding and have taken great pains to do so, including my forebears. It hasn't been a perfect country but that's because it's made up of imperfect PEOPLE. But for most of those who have come here & their descendants it's lived up to there hopes. I've noted that many from other lands understand the opportunities here better than many native born Americans. I will NOT TOLERATE the intentional or unintentional actions of ANYONE seeking to degrade & destroy this country! We have tolerated many an insult in my lifetime but ALL efforts to bring down this nation must be cosidered, by each freedom loving citizen, to be an act of war against their home! That includes(though is not limited to) the actions of nationals from Communist China! They will not let ANYONE freely come here who isn't willing to do ANYTHING their govt. demands of them. Therefore EVERY Chinese national who comes here is at least a POTENTIAL CCP agent! For the good of our country and to send a clear message to the CCP, we should expel MOST Chinese nationals from our borders and closely monitor those who remain!

Years ago, I met a person who was part of an official group which role was to defaced or tore down emblems, posters or anything that represented Taiwan (Taiwanese flag was definitely a no-no) during friendly multi national sports matches. They would normally enter the sports grounds in the middle of the night to cause the damage so that when the teams arrived the next morning, they would see the mess created. I personally thought that the person and his team were simply childish, narrow-minded and petty. But this team was paid to do it and they were merely the executors of the command which means it must have approval from the entire chain of command upwards. It was such a hypocrite to invite the Taiwanese for the games officially and then behind everybody's back performed such cowardly, low-based, dirty vandalism.

I lived in China for a year and fell in love with Chinese people. I was treated very well, regardless of this I put honesty and personal integrity above all else and refused to go along with what the CCP wanted me to teach about the West, as an evolutionist one sees humanity for what it is, not for what propagandists insist is truth about each others ability. I also warned in a lecture unless China cleans up its act in regards to Hygiene this epidemic will happen. What CCP missed about British industrial development and colonisation which inspires it, using it as an excuse to say it is China's turn now, but missing the fact, we had a justice system based in law, and always had free speech and that is our culture, it means we are not afraid of authority. It meant the matter of hygiene which was a serious problem in Victorian UK it killed millions, was over come by freedom of expression. Because that is true equality, equality is not material based, only peasants think that, it is some thing all Marxist and one party systems have yet to adapt, and until they do the Party hurts the people. Government cannot stop people hurting them self, but Government have no right to threaten people for expressing a view. Technological progress does not mean cultural progress, it is merely window dressing. We are equal when we are no longer threatened because we express our independent mind. I feel deeply for the Chinese people now suffering due to arrogance ignorance and vanity, and do not worry many of us are as critical of Left in the West stupidly copying CCP. I didnt actually hurt or kill anyone" But those same people should you offend them in some way, act like you punched their mother! they are hypocrites but they are evil-smart ones! they get to debase you, but wont let you defend yourself! This is how they wear people down. Civility and respect flows one direction until they get you to submit, just because you are tired of the gaslighting and abuse! Hell NO! they want to be assholes, sometimes you have to be an asshole too! They ONLY understand emotional violence! I understand it sounds cruel and vengeful. But when you appreciate the dark psychology behind what they are trying to do, then it is a form of self-defence. Winston seems to understand it on a macro level, but he is too good of a person on the micro level. Laudable! but this will make him susceptible to ALL the micro-aggressions they will dole out! i would feel bad about offending the average, decent Chinses person, but for these political clowns, they need this 'punch in the nose'! they cant be reasoned with the way we can! think of it as a form of self-defense!

Burning Mao's picture reminds me of a story I'd read from an American journalist who had lived in the Soviet Union in the 1970s: Some English exchange students were arguing with their Soviet peers in their dorms about freedom in their respective countries. At some point the conversation got heated, and to prove his point, one of the English students took a picture of Queen Elizabeth and tore it up - asking the Soviet students if they could do the same with the portrait of Brezhnev. Of course, the English students were immediately expelled from the country. The point is, whether or not it is "right" or "wrong" to burn Mao's picture, the freedom to do so MUST exist.

Funny (or not really funny) thing is, we get CCTV (state television) in Hong Kong as well, & there are SO MANY period dramas of youthful Mao (played by pretty handsome actors LOL) rescuing China from the evil Japanese. Chinese State TV keeps rolling out these TV "programs" as PROGRAMMING. But when I was checking out sticker art in Shinjuku last week... all of the Hong Kong - revolution of our times sticker were damaged... scratching out the message. And I know it wasn't the Japanes people doing that... I didn't see it happen - but I would guess that Chinese tourists saw it and scratched away the message. This is the kind of control the CCP wants to have over the Chinese people. In the 60s they successfully got the whole country to go fiercely against anybody the CCP or Chairman Mao didn't like, be it a historical figure such as Confucius, or someone from their own camp such as Deng Xiaoping, or the west. Those people who followed the CCP religiously back in the 60s later realized it was a big farce. So a lot of them wouldn't be easily instigated later in their lives. But the young generation didn't go through any of that and they're much more prone to the indoctrination of CCP's views at school. The same author wrote "MAO The Unknown Story" - not so easy to read, but if you are interested in this stuff, it's worth it. A lot of the information taken from Communist Archives in both China and Russia, as well as speaking to survivors (by which I include widows of decorated and revered generals among others) For the record, I used to think Mao was a Narcissist, then realised he was a sociopath. That book put it beyond doubt, even if only half of it is true (and as sources are quoted, its likely mostly true)

Long ago Lithuania was occupied and heavily exploited by the imperial Russia. So there was an uprising for freedom in which so many Lithuanians died, that their families have filled this place with crosses for them and for their hope that one day free Lithuania would be resurrected like Christ was. Anyhow, what's interesting in this context is that during the soviet occupation, communist government hated this place with a passion! There were guards placed here, but people would still find way to bring their crosses there. So they started to destroy the site little by little and much like this lady, they have thrown away like 2/3 of these crosses, so the place is not as big as it used to be. They have even devised a plan to sink this place under the water by building the dam on nearby river... Yet they did not prevail and Lithuania is now a free country once again! I sincerely hope that in the long run CCP China will not prevail against Honk Kong.

Thank you for your beautiful comment! As a Cantonese very close to Hong Kong and witnessing the strangling of its freedom almost every step of the way now, I really hope so too.

Hong Kong is unfortunately lost. The best that the West can do for the people of Hong Kong is to arrange to get all those that want to stay free, a way to leave.
