Every Friday morning in the bakeries of Israel is bustling. Religious, secular, sympathetic people go to buy fresh challah. Because without challah there is no Sabbath. Nevertheless, challah is quite easy to make yourself.
You will need:
500 grams of sifted flour
2 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of dry yeast
Mix everything together
Add to a bowl
200 ml of water
60 ml of vegetable oil
1 egg
Knead the dough in a processor for 6-8 minutes at the lowest speed
By hand, it will take at least 20 minutes
Put the dough in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and leave for 1 hour
After an hour, you can braid the challah
Sprinkle the ready challah with oil and leave it under a towel to rest for 40 minutes
After 40 minutes, brush with egg, bake at 180°C for 40-50 minutes depending on your oven
