Keep up the great work! Yours are the most comprehensive ham radio videos on KZitem. After being an Alexloop user for a couple of years, I also bit the bullet and bought the F-Loop plus based on your videos and F-Loop playlist with no regrets! I'm hoping to get the remote control kit for my F-Loop after new year. Thanks again, and please never give up on your channel and digi comms group on Facebook. We don't always comment, but i'm sure many of us appreciate your videos more than you know.

Another excellent video Julian. My F loop does work well and I love the flexibility it offers, but the size of the P loop and the results you got make it better for my ultra compact travel station. Thanks for your comprehensive and very realistic review and comments. 73 de N3CI Dave

+David Edger thanks David I'm really happy that F-LOOP is working out for you. I've been fascinated with loops since I was a young boy, honestly neither of these has let down that fascination. I know there's lots of different loops on the market but I really don't think there's anything as flexible as the F-Loop. The P-LOOP on the other hand could be smaller, but so far that's the only less than positive thing I can say about it. Anyway thank you very much for the comment. I often get beat up in the forums and comments section, however comments like yours keep me fueled up and ready to go. 73 de Julian OH8STN

My kit did not contain the 80m conversion loop. Would it be better to get the aluminum loop or the 80m coax for my next upgrade? Looks like the 80 meter is very low efficiency. Thank you K7LLL

dancingjim1 I believe it was earlier this year when they started adding the 80 meter kit. I'm going to be doing some field testing between the booster kit, 80 meter kit and the aluminium radiator. Will do indoor and outdoor test with each of those antennas and a single video to show which one performs better. based on that you can decide which one is best for you.

Thanks for the video on this Julian. It was very helpful. I now have my decisions made and will be purchasing the f loop in 2 weeks. The ideal of the remote tuning and rotater is a big plus was well. Plus cost wise after looking into it from Canada I would pay more for the p loop than the F loop by the time it's delivered. so I may as well gel the extra coverage for my money.

Steven LeBlanc EDIT :) Glad if the video was useful. The upgrade to the F-Loop are a big selling point. My standard configuration is with the aluminum radiator. Until the P-Loop atoned l arrived, I used the F-Loop tripod mounted as shown in the video. make sure to invest in a good sturdy tripod!

I did like the video. How so I flag it? I've been looking at different tripods. I do have a good camera tripod. It's a Samsonite.. I use it with my buddistick, with a 4 litre water bottle hung from the bottom for extra stability.

Thanks Julian, This gives me a lot to think about. I am pretty sure I will be getting a Chameleon Loop of some sort. Just have to weigh the pros/cons of the F and P loops. Main concern is do I need the 80M band and future upgrade of rotating base and tuning controller. What were you thoughts of how the Cha-F Loop is used portable in the field? I am a member of ARES/RACES and may need to be deployed as a portable station to aid in city/county communications in an event of an emergency. thanks again for your videos..
@OH8STN

Sean Ben-Safed Hi Sean. Please watch the Aluminum radiator test part off the video again. The performance difference between the LMR400 and aluminium radiator are significant enough to take a very close look at. As far as ARES, deploying a magloop has pros/cons. I would be most concerned about RF exposure to other operators who unwittingly move too near to the loop. Other than that, and understanding the high Q of magloops, I see no reason why not to deploy them. Just get a heavy duty tripod to protect. thanks for commenting and for watching it's very much appreciated.

Julian, Thanks for a very detailed comparison of the P & F Loops. As for your thoughts on Wham Bam Thank you ma'am, We're talking about to completely different types of shows and two different audiences. My main audience are brand new hams and guys considering the hobby. Those guys consistently comment to me that they appreciate the fact that I keep it at a level they can easily understand and That I keep the show moving at a fairly good pace and keep it short. I know you bitched at me about not providing the transmit details in my P loop review, My plan is to provide enough basic information about the three Loops I'm shooting out in few weeks to wet a potential buyers appetite. For had core numbers I'll refer them to your tests. I'm more of a travel user when it comes to QRP rigs and portable antennas. I travel in my RV extensively and fly to tropical locations for SCUBA dive trips. Travel space, weight, ease of setup and street price are very important to me and consequently those are the types of things I tend to concentrate about in my reviews. Casual users tell me they like my reviews. You commented that I would rather make an entertaining / great video as opposed to providing all of the information about some of the products you see on my channel. Well thats true. Again, a different audience, a different format. I'm defiantly not copying you or any other amateur radio channel. What I do is completely my own. The way I see it, Your format has been done. Commsprepper has been done. K7AGE has been done. How boring would it be if we all produced the same thing. Remember, there are different hams at different levels of experience, knowledge and ability. I enjoy your videos and I learn a lot from them. 73, Bob-K6UDA

+K6UDA Hey Bob, Silly human! ;) Your channel was on my mind, but don't take it too seriously. I think some channels review the gear but don't know how to show the viewer the true capabilities of the kit. The videos are somehow always half done, or done with the least amount of effort needed to feel free of guilt for accepting the kit. I make my reviews in almost impossible operating conditions, so the user knows it's going to work for them, in their operating conditions. CommsPrepper shows the email hookups, I do my WSPR, Data modes, RBN, PSK Reporter, ssb, .,. While you trybto make people laugh. I guess I just don't laugh much anymore! You're right though, I didn't like how your video gave an impression that the antenna didn't work, when IMO the problem was very obviously between the radio and chair. I didn't understand how a manufacturer could benefit from potential customers being led to believe the system wasn't functional!? New guys don't understand the band conditions at that time of day, they only see it didn't work, and your joking about it. I think that's irresponsible, but it's just an opinion! Where I was blatantly poking at your video, was with my WSPR results, and each ssb qso. You see, I'm 1600 miles further north than most ham radio operators in Europe. So if I can do it, qrp portable from the Arctic Circle, in any mode, someone using the same kit with the same skill-set, surrounded by stations, should be able to pull it off from sunny California. Ok about the reviews. I loved your th-d74 review! Then I wondered to myself why the P-Loop review wasn't done with the same passion!? I think that's the question! Anyway, I'm not a hater! I just take communications more seriously than others do, which is perfectly OK! If you need help with your channel or reviews, I'm always willing to make time, since sometimes, we bite off more than we can chew. Looking forward to the next review in your series. We were all pretty bummed that you hadn't published it already! 73 de Julian OH8STN

My plan is to take all three loops I'm shooting out and do an RBN test, back to back under the same conditions to eliminate the ionosphere from the equation. I'll present those numbers as part of my shootout. I concentrate more on SSB because thats naturally where new guys operate and can relate. I'll do the next two reviews slightly different as it got to be entertaining too. Why wasn't the P-loop done with the same passion? I think it was. Its just not finished & I said so in that video. It comes back for head to head competition with the Alpha & the Alex. Transmit performance is only part of the equation, receive ability, deployment ease of use, cost, portability & build quality all factor in for me. I obviously don't beat the shit out of my equipment like you do and as far as the SSB lack of contacts went on the day I did my review video, well thats what happened & I decided to be honest about it. After all the majority of newer hams are going to use this casually or are living in places where a large antenna is not an option. 73 Bob K6UDA

Ahh Plus, When I'm shooting my videos its like a TV production. Broadcast camera, (Sony PMW-160), at least 3 light sources, separate audio and wired lav mics. Plus, all the receive audio is mixed in from its own channel on a Zoom H4N Field Recorder so its not muddy. Kinda makes operating on the fly for video really really difficult.
@OH8STN

+K6UDA Relax Bob. Your production quality is outstanding!!! Clean audio, clear video. I'm shooting with kit I can carry to the field. Head mounted GoPro, AKG cans and akg active headset, all edited on a HTC Nexus 9 running KineMaster Pro on Android 7. I get it, our priorities are very different. Still, don't worry too much about my bitching! It's done in good faith with only honest feedback in mind. Trick question. If I told you to leave the beach, go past the "farm", heading inland on Beach Boulevard until you reached the foothills, would you know where I'm talking about?
@OH8STN

+K6UDA Make it more simple! I never use my zoom audio anymore. I could get absolutely brilliant audio from it but then I spend all my time focusing on production. I like to be able to take my gear with me to the field (like that scene in Lapland). So it's not always beautiful but it's real. Still you have excellent production quality.

Very well done!!! So how is it to use the Booster Kit on the F-LOOP and the P-LOOP? Is it stable enough on the field? Is it harder to tune?
@OH8STN
8 жыл бұрын
ChameleonWalker the critical point with the booster kit is getting it aligned perfectly. once you have that done it's simple to work with. I certainly wouldn't be deploying it in a wind storm, but the additional performance gain is significant enough that it's a reasonable option. Tuning was sharper on the F-Loop. No noticeable difference on the P-Loop.

Hi Julian. I realize this is an old vid. I just received confirmation from John at Chameleon that the P Loop has been discontinued. I've been contemplating the idea of a P Loop for portable ops (digital modes, primarily JS8 and PSK31)....but looks like that won't be an option now. With the only option being the F Loop, would you say this is a 'game changer' and that perhaps I should look elsewhere?

Pardon my ignorance , I am new to loops, but hoe does one aim this loop. If I wish to cover east to west, which way do I orient the loop? Does it radiate off the ends or turn the circle toward the desired direction? I am sure everyone but me knows the answer. Thank you for your time. N4KBM

Hi, I juste bought one and it has a radiator made with a longer LMR 400 (for 3 MHz). I have difficulties to do the second loop as described in the notice : the two coax arent at all in the same plane. In fact I got even a third LMR that seems to be useless. The worse is that each coax tends to turn and dont stay in a straight line, its difficult to get a circle. Did you try to add the"booster" cable and get the two "radiators" properly aligned, and how did you do ? Many thx, Milos F4IIP

Julian I thank you for your outstanding videos. I have a cha f loop, an ft818nd (foolishly sold 817 several years ago but missed it too much). Won’t go on further with other acquisitions prompted by your videos. Rather, my question regards the actual risks for the f loop experiencing rain or snow. Wd40 or Vaseline could minimize moisture intrusion. Removing the face panel would allow drying out with a hair dryer. What experience have you had in this situation? Draws hat on the way, thanks for your influence!!! 73 de Mike WF8O!!!
