Damn Taranaki literally just went through the season with ease. Congrats to them & also good try for Otago for making it to the final.

Number 23 Taranaki - Vereniki Tikoisolomone aint no joke, just seen a few of his highlight reels. Commentators are right, he needs more chances. Another hidden gem playing in NZ right now. Will be keeping an eye on his progress.

@@reggiefollett6915 All Blacks Captain....Im thinking Reuban Thorne but I don't recall him playing for the Naki, maybe Slater brothers? Bull Allen? or must've been older....Mourie? The rugby grounds back then was the old rugby park, now deemed unsafe due to the grandstand, I think. I too, myself have not been back to the Naki in a while.

@@Tee.NZ.07 thanks for update which threw me back many years with great pleasure. It was Graham Mourie who was the captain plus the scrum half plus a scrum member. I was mates with a guy who played for the Naki, at #7 or 8.....was awarded an All Blacks slot, suffered a broken arm or shoulder blade during a game and was therefore unable to play due to injury. The scrum half I mentioned who was an All Black, gave me his shirt which I remember giving to him whilst he was in a wheel chair. Unfortunately forgotten his name but hell, I had some great after game beers on several occasions. I was the the Dive Supt on an offshore DSV then and spent a year there. Great memories.....thanks. Whoever made the call to continue the competition without any promotion and relegation should be sacked and fined that is a absolute disgrace not to continue the competition without any promotion and relegation but congratulations Taranaki for winning the championship finals and for going through the whole season unbeaten, we deserve to be playing in the premiership next year.

Exactly. As a result it’s being a pointless season. Maybe they should have gone ahead with the promotion relegation and just excluded the teams that couldn’t take part for this season .

Taranaki were the best team in either division this year, and they ended up playing for nothing. Absolutely disrepectful. A few years ago, Wellington also would have run the premiership close despite being in (and winning) the championship. Just get rid of the divisions already. There's no reason why you can't just have a 10-game regular season without the divisions, if time is a constraint. This competition is failing anyway, so what do you have to lose?

NZRFU should be taking note of how poor Taranaki were performing for the last few years before 2021. When Colin Copper left at the end of 2017 they were relegated from the premiership to the championship in 2018 then continued to perform worse then when Neil Barnes took over as coach for Taranaki in 2021, they ended up winning the championship and have won 10 games in a row while Neil Barnes has been coaching for Taranaki and has still yet to lose a game lol while Foster has been coaching for the All Blacks has just recently lost their first test series at home since 1994, first lost to Argentina last year plus first back to back loses last year since 2011, another back to back loses later in 2021 plus back to back loses against Ireland at home this season. So far the All blacks has lost 4 out of their last 5 games and still they believe they can improve with the same old coach and players and they still fail.

@j w We would have got thrashed if i was playing mate, I'm steering down the barrel of 70. The point i was making was Otago defended poorly with 1 on 1 tackles. 13,14,15,&11. The little 9 and the 1st five were outstanding on defence. Im a true blue & Gold supporter and wish them well. Sorry to have pissed you off.
