Sharing here the recipe of Chana Halwa puri, the prasad that we serve to the ‘kanya’ or ‘kanjak’ on Durga Ashtami or Navami. Chana Halwa Puri is the traditional prasad for that is offered on these days to Goddess Durga and the young girls invited home. I am sharing here my recipe of Chana Halwa Puri, the way I make it at home.

Recipe :
Chana Halwa Puri
Preparation time: 10 minutes + soaking time
Cooking time: 25 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
2 cups Bengal gram
1tbsp Oil
1” Cinnamon
2 Black cardamom
2 Dry red chillies
2tbsp Coriander seeds
5 Cloves
¼ Mace
2 Bay leaves
2tbsp Coriander seeds
2 tsp Cumin
½ tsp Pepper powder
1tbsp Coriander powder
1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
½ tsp Cumin Seeds
Coriander leaves to garnish
Salt to taste
Method:
Soak the Bengal gram overnight or for a minimum of 8 hours.
Pressure cook the soaked Bengal gram with the bay leaf, black cardamom, 1tsp salt in 3 cups water for 4 whistles or till done. When done, strain the chana and reserve the water.
In a pan, dry roast the Cinnamon, Black cardamom, Dry red chillies, Coriander seeds, Cloves, Mace, Bay leaves, Coriander seeds, Cumin and Cloves.
When fragrant and lightly coloured, remove from heat.
Cool and grind to a powder. (Product Integration)
Mix in the coriander powder, red chili powder and the dry mango powder.
Heat oil. To medium hot oil, add the cumin seeds and allowed to splutter. Next add in the prepared chana masala and mix well.
Add half cup reserved water and bring to a boil.
Cook till the oil separates.
Add the boiled Bengal grams with the remaining water and toss well. Cook till all the water is absorbed by the spices and the spices coat the chana well.
Halwa
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 3-4
Ingredients:
1 cup Rava
2 cups sugar
3 cups water
2 tbsp ghee
Dry fruits to taste
Method:
Put sugar and water to boil in a pan. when the sugar dissolves completely, remove from fire and set aside.
Dry roast the rava on medium heat till golden. Stir continuously to prevent burning. Now add the ghee and roast further till the rava turns a dark golden colour.
Now add the prepared sugar syrup, and mix well. As soon as the rava absorbs the syrup. Remove from fire and add the chopped nuts mix well. Serve with chana and puri.
