This is probably my favorite TV commercial of all time. Have not seen it in more than 25 years until now on KZitem. I first saw it during my favorite time of life as a youth and seeing it again has brought back those very great memories. Many thanks to louisadeck for posting this -- it really made my day seeing it again after all these years.

This was fantastic! What a shocking flashback to a memory that had caved in my neurons! I LOVE fully "recoloring" my memories like this. We truly live in a modern age when we're able to recall our past with this technology. I LOVE it!

@WizardsMachine I agree! Today's commercials are in your face but there was a time when it was classy to be subtle and mysterious.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this posting! This was my favorite commercial as a kid. The cinematography - visually stunning. The music. The subtlety - less is definitely more. I haven't watched TV for about 5 years and this commercial's why. Current television, both programming and commercials, is insipid and inane! I'll take a Chanel commercial and School House Rock over American [Idiot] Idol ay day!

I totally agree! I find, though, that sometimes things aren't exactly like you remember them...perhaps I viewed this commercial only a few times, then somehow reconstructed how it looked in my head over time trying to remember it...but seeing it again brings back so much!

"I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" - the 1941 version by The Ink Spots. I recall this commercial and the tune with fond recollection.

I remember when Blade Runner came out and the scene where Deckard meets Rachel for the first time in Dr. Tyrell's office as she enters the room I was immediately reminded of this commercial. After so many years have passed seeing this ad again on KZitem triggered the memory of that. Weird.

Search "Bill Kenny - I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" here on KZitem. I've uploaded the song. It's from Bill's 1979 CBS album "If I Didn't Care". Kenny passed in '78 so in 1979 when this ad came out, Bill's wife Audrey had to sue Chanel for using this recording without permission.

It is so obviously Bill Kenny. The only reference you have is that Short sang for Chanel commercials. I listen to Kenny religiously. This is from his album "The Ink Spots - If I Didn't Care" on CBS records. It is Kenny with a backup vocal group. All Chanel did was simply speed it up a bit and ad a Piano lick at the beginning. Kenny's Pianist Bev Gore Langton told me the story of Audrey suing. He is a very reliable source. You can believe that or not, but this IS without a doubt Bill Kenny.

The entrance of "Catherine" against the dappled, bronzy background always reminds me of the introduction of "Rachael" in "Blade Runner".

Thanks for the upload of the Kenny version. The Bobby Short Chanel version is a faster rhythm than Kenny. They're both similar but with differences. Thanks again but I'll side with it being Short in the commercial. People used to swear it was the Ink Spots. Short mentions his perfume commercial in his book. I doubt that Ridley Scott would use Kenny without permission.

I just read the Bobby Short "Saloon Singer" biography. It does not mention Chanel perfume at all, but he mentions a Revlon perfume commercial on page 242. It's also curious that out of the celebrities and musicians he meets, he did not mention the Ink Spots or any of their songs.
