On the 13th June 2017 the first trains left Swanage to begin the resumption of a regular train service to Wareham and the National rail network that British Railways had closed in January 1972. Although only operating for 60 days this year during the summer months, it marks a milestone in the ambitions of the Swanage Railway Society that was set up in May 1972 to return the Swanage branch back as an operational railway. It was a great pleasure at last to travel from my home town of Bath entirely by rail to one of the most scenic areas of the British Isles. The Swanage Railway deserves to be congratulated on their wonderful achievements. Long may your success prosper.
