Truggies, brushless power and SCTs killed it. That being said the class was never really as big as it seemed and its original purpose is now redundant. It was really only intended as a feeder class for 1/8th scale nitro buggy, something that 1/8th scale electric buggy does while also being its own major class. Even in their heyday, a lot of clubs only saw a handful of nitro trucks vs at least twice as many 1/8th scale buggies. It's a shame, really. I've spent several hundred to turn an old JATO 2.5 into a track monster and I have nowhere to run it.

It’s been this way since the trucks were introduced almost 30 years ago with the original RC10T, which was pretty much an RC10 buggy with wider suspension arms, custom shock towers, and longer shocks. The wider stance, combined with relative low CG, makes them much easier to drive. If you have a good neutral setup, most of the time, you may just have to change tires based on what the track likes, but you can usually figure that out from what the locals use. The only time I recall ever having to change shock settings was to adjust based on how smooth or rough the track was overall. Wow, it’s crazy to hear some company names after all these years: MÍP, Lunsford... good to see that these companies are still around, particularly Associated. I wasn’t sure how things would pan out after they merged with Thunder Tiger many years ago. I haven’t raced since about ‘98 and only did very little off-road (I mostly raced on-road), but I still remember those days like it was yesterday.

That vintage looking body is sweet. I've been racing non competitive and club racing for 10+ years. For me the competitors racing truck are having more fun. Some of the same drivers in buggy are uptight and not having fun in buggy, but once they get on track with the truck they are having a blast. I personally love 2 wheel buggy on dirt but can't really stand it on carpet. But truck is so much more fun on both dirt and carpet. Your statements about the tuning window being larger for the truck are correct, so it then comes down to the driver adapting to the truck to make up for the sub optimal settings.

I think you're probably correct. I just got back into the hobby after a fairly long hiatus. I always drove stadium trucks in the past. I'm running short course 4×4 now. These SCT's really blew up in popularity while I was away. I can't believe how popular 4×4 is. When I first got into the hobby 25 years ago, 4×4 wasn't really anything more than a novelty. Nice video! I forgot to mention that I always went nitro in the past. Now electric is king and I never thought it would be so good!

I stuck with cars and started racing with the original RC10, RC10L, RC12L. I got out when the RC10T2 was hot. Now my son is about to turn 13 and we have dabbled at home with some RTRs from Dramida to top line Arrma 1/8th stuff. Stadium Trucks are awesome! I used to love racing my B3 and T3 factory team kits back in the early 2000's. For me though ever since I was a kid I always had a thing for Buggys though. I just like the looks of older buggys. (hate the new cab forward look). But I also love the challenge that buggys present. Stadium trucks are too easy to drive though. They just have too much grip and are in my experience easier to dial in. SC trucks are kinda like buggys to in that they dont have the same grip a stadium truck has and there for are a bit more challenging to drive fast.

That's when the stadium truck class was just growing and its a shame that the 2wd stadium truck class is hardly seen these days in my area, however now we are seeing the 4wd class take off. I'm happy to see trucks making a comeback just as I'm just getting back to the scene so I will be watching to see which manufacturers will be releasing 4wd trucks/ truggies later in the year. I'm aware that Xray has begun shipping theirs and PR Racing has a truggy available as well so the competition should be very fun to watch and definitely help the hobby grow more.

If you’re going’s to race, 2wd Buggy is most popular, followed by 2wd mod buggy, 4wd buggy and 4wd mod buggy. In other words if you want to race you should get something that’s popular in your area. Which is why I got a 2wd stock buggy. Good looking car though👍 and always love your content.

The old school 2wd stadium trucks are a pain to drive. They really teach you how to control your throttle. My first RC was a xxx-nt rtr. I just bash, but in the dirt, it was still a handful. A 1/8th buggy is like driving a high flying tank! Just turn the wheel and gun it! Never drove a 2wd buggy. Guessing they would be a bit more annoying than the 2wd st since the tires are narrower.

All the success that buggies have had over the years has made every other class posible. For me growing up in the late 80's early 90's, buggies are what rc was. If we are talking racing, anything winning at the track has "buggy" aspects to the platform. Trucks are more fun for for sure, because they are more forgiving, but nothing will turn heads and drop jaws like a dialed in buggy. Your right, trucks are funner , but buggies are better, cooler, faster😀

I was never that into buggies, although I had a gold tub RC10 as one of my first cars. Trucks were the new thing in racing when I got into RC. I liked the bigger wheels, they handled the grass and obstacles around my house better. There were also more kids driving trucks at the track, the older guys stuck to their buggies. My first racing truck was a Traxxas Blue Eagle LS. The battles I had at the track with RC10T's and JrXT's were epic. The early 90's was a great time for RC. A lot of guys around here moved to running buggies and SCT's at events and dropped trucks because all the hype was on the SCT's when they came out. I like the paint job on the Rustler body, looks old school.

I think they are in this weird uncanny valley transition between scale trucks and buggies, but is not actually a truck or a buggy. Trucks are cool, buggies are cool, but this is like... I don't know, it is just off for some reason. However if it is small (1:24 or less) then this type of truck-buggy (truggy?) is cool because it looks cute. Bigger scale they look like a human baby scaled up to an adult height. Anyway, they are fun to drive still, people have preferences and some will think this looks cool.

Get a few good truck drivers together and its a lot more skill, IMO. More mass to fling around, harder to 'fly' them. When things go wrong, they keep going wrong for length of time unlike buggy which you can correct quicker but the pace is faster. Trucks are harder to gain time with, harder to negotiate in lap traffic due to size and how much they slide in the corner vs buggy, handling is more numb so you have to plan more vs attack. That's been my exp for 20 years. :)
