This is terrible advice. You do not take the three screws off the back. There is a screw on the left of the saw to let the shield go higher to just remove the bolt. Also there is a lock button to press down vs the piece of wood. This video should probably just be deleted.

Dan could this be a cheaper Black and Decker that does not have lock button, I still have a B&D BT1500 which has that button, I was trying to see if I could see it on this one

What model is that miter saw?
@parlous1995

Hey yall this is actually incorrect there is a screw hidden on the left side of the saw that holds the shield. Unscrew that shield and you can easily remove the blade without unscrewing and dropping the motor.

My 703 had a wing nut on the right top side of the blade guard. Removing that did the trick. Thanks !

... I don't understand, why didn't Black & Decker design a better procedure for changing the blade? What did Black & Decker think, that people were gonna throw away the unit, once the blade became dull? This is nuts! Wasn't there a Spindle Lock button Underneath the handle? Which model is this, a 1710? Thanks

I have a Black & Decker SMS254 really great saw solid and well made, very powerful. Incredible value for money I have it on a JCB mitre stand. Loads of positive reviews on tis slider, the most bang for your buck of ANY compound saw bought this model in mid 2014, used it personally to build most of the furnishings in our house and for 3 years professionally doing everything from furniture to decks to fencing to structure to finish carpentry. i can only guess how many hours i logged on this thing before it arced out and melted in the first week of work in 2018! the hours of use per dollar spent ratio on this machine as compared to most of the guys i see using $1200 dewalts etc is as good at least, if not way better. figure this saw runs about $350, 1/3 to 1/4 the price of the top of the line machines. you'd have to run these more expensive machines for 10-14 years before they'd break even in hours use per dollar spent as compared to the black and decker. on top of that, this machine was as accurate as both of the makitas and dewalts that i've used. it's lighter to move, has a solid 305 mm cutting radius, has super simple features that do the job from cutting lap joints to compound angles for furniture and finish work. the only complaint i have is that a couple of the components lack durability, and that the accuracy on mitred cuts diminishes with the saw at full extension more than i noticed on the dewalt and makita. i'm debating just getting another one just to replace the one that died yesterday. i have yet to find anything that competes cost for value, so i might just go with this model again. I just changed this blade. First off thanks. 2nd off, first time changing a miter saw blade. Whoever in r and d thought that unhooking the motor in order to change a blade was a good idea needs their head examined

This plastic piece of trash broke when changing the blade. So mad. The little bolt in the middle of the blade (that you're supposed to turn clockwise) broke right off. You can see inside the bolt - it's not even steel, it's a piece of coated effing aluminum. In a miter saw. Holding the thing together. Aluminum. Are you kidding me.

That is NOT how you do it. Look up videos that show the right way. You do not unscrew the 3 screws to do it.

You should take this down before someone hurts themselves. That is not the way to change the blade. And this is coming from a 64 year old woman.

This video sucks: this is a different model than normal I took off that plastic piece and it has some graphite contacts that’s keeping it from sliding it back it, I have to either take the contacts off or try some bs with flat head screw drivers
