Changing the Guard is purely a term given to the formal ceremony where by sentries are relived so new sentries can take their place. This happens at Edinburgh Castle as well as other places, including Buckingham Palace. However, whereby these ceremonies are low key affairs, as seen in the video, in London, Changing the Guard has become a flambouyant event. It has nothing to do with the changing of Regiments or Guardsmen, but is to do with changing sentries "on guard". :)

The lure of kilts and bagpipes cannot be denied. One of Napoleon’s marshals Etienne MacDonald who’s family were exiled from Scotland for their pro Stuart leanings. Napoleon never fielded him against British troops because he didn’t trust him within the sound of the bagpipes

I see a lot of ignorant and rude comments about "skirts" and "transvestites" and whatnot regarding the kilt. To those ignorant people who don't know much more than what their meager brainwashing has trained them to believe, men wore knee-length (or longer) wraps in so many cultures around the world for millenia and still continue to do so in some cultures untouched by western ideals. You can even look at the long knee-length tunics sometimes worn by US marines as related to the belted tunic.

@Pribhumi Meddia The measure of a man/soldier is not how he marches or his physical conditioning or the tools he uses to accomplish a job, the measure of a man/soldier relies solely in his ability to complete the job assigned on time and properly to the best of his abilities and also in the upholding of his honor and his countries honor. If you do not agree then you do not know the measure of manhood, try marching like those british soldiers do, in the same uniforms, in the same weather conditions like they do; you will most likely fail. Do not hide behind your indonesian army and insult other countries. What you probably didn't see is how tough the British training camp really is, you most likely saw this on tv or in a movie and it was made to look nice. Post Scriptum: I do not live in the UK, nor have any ties to it, i'm just opposed to harassment of others on a skewed factual basis. Please check your facts before you attack others over the internet.

The kilt is the traditional battle dress of all Scottish regiments. It allows for ease of movement superior agility while fighting in the field. Nowadays, we don't go to war in kilts. If you think theses men aren't battle ready, you clearly don't understand the notion of Scotland.

Please, do not take Nate Lightfoot's comment as a representation of all American's. While I will agree that a vast majority of American's are ignorant of how the rest of the world does things (this also includes myself to some degree) It makes me sad that some American's can't even recognize that the rest of the world is not America, and does not do things the American way. I personally try to respect that different countries will do things differently, as diversity isn't a bad thing. :)

One great ceremony is the Ceremony of the Keys which marks the end of the duty day at the Tower of London. The Yeoman Warders formally lock the gates escorted by a detachment of the Queens Guard. A sloemn duty carried on since the 14th century. In its long history it was never cancelled. The one delayed occurred during the Blitz when a German bomb exploded nearby. The guards picked themselves up and carried on. The warden of the castle wrote an apology to the King who replied that that it was not necessary since the delay was caused by enemy action

In this instance, you are not obvious, you can't own a continent name to mean a country, I'm american, but obviously not from U.S, you should get a nationality name too, such as.. Stater.
