went to London last year. some of these boys rode by. smart as you like. horses were to die for. called it what you like, pomp and pageantry, whatever. but most of these lads are serving front line soldiers too. it makes me hugely proud to be BRITISH. all the tourists loved it too. you simply cannot beat the history that England has, anywhere in the world. maybe its why we have soooo many haters. jealousy is never a good thing.

DAVID Marshall I`m not a hater for sure, but this uniform looks way too barmy. I just can`t take it seriously. Chest armour that looks more like corset from sex shop because it`s obviously way too small. Blonde african bunches from helmet and freaking fisherman`s boots. Like wtf. And also those movements as if they`re not soldiers, but robot dancers from 80`s music videos and they make faces of woman during childbirth. Why. Just why.

Ch Olera tradition mainly, and its all just ceremonial dress, like in a marching band, all us informs need to be in pristine condition, it shows diciplne and is a very honorable thing to do.

Hound Zero They look ridiculous, though. Chest plate, sure, go for it, but as Cholera mentioned, that does not look like proper Armour. The boots look absolute horrible and i'm 100% certain that British Cavalry never used boots like that. Helmet could look better, too.

+Ch Opera the cuirass has to be that short to let the rider turn and bend when he's on horseback. the helmets were designed by prince albert during the victorian era and the boots are stiff because they were designed to protect from sword blows and have around 8 tins of polish on keeping them shiny. all that combined the only place on that mans body that could be hit from horseback is his hip and upper arms. disparage them all you like but remember that those regiments have battle honours going back centuries and include the battles of marne, waterloo, el alamein and afghanistan. the uniforms are ostentatious because their history is long, and all that stuff does serve a purpose

Just a note to this video- the narrator states at the beginning that this is the Changing of the Guard, at Buckingham Palace. This is neither the Changing of the Guard, nor is it at Buckingham Palace- it is the guard coming off duty at Horse Guards Parade.

I think your traditions are very fascinating and epic looking. I wish us Americans had something interesting like that. It's nice to be able to have such a thing like that for your country :)

@ScarFace9797 - decades ago when I lived in London I enjoyed watching the pageantry (literally brought colour into the grey days). Long before I lived & worked in London I rode regularly through the parks & woods of Buckinghamshire. I even remember the plight of poor Sefton. I still retain my love of horses (inherited by my daughter) & now, in my retirement, buried in Somerset I have to enjoy the pageantry of London via KZitem. Is that good enough reason to appear on several sites :)

@RonnieRox18 well i suppose a few of the horses flinched a bit. but anyone would if you got a big pat on the side of your neck from somewhere you cant see haha. it only looks like a slap cause they swing their arms back. but there not causing harm. they just cant be all loving infront of people there not even aloud to smile so if they start loving up their horses then that would miss the point haha. and really (aparently) your supposed to reward the horse while still on not after

@pillowbugg The Horses are just really symbolic now, If the Palace got attacked they wouldn't fight on horseback. It just shows that they are the Household Cavalry.

@SR0Penne0Brillo well, I understand the Calvary doesn't implement horses for battle any longer, but it appears these soldiers on patrolling the home front. Just wondering if they are symbolic or serve a genuine purpose.

Don't worry, they are not "hitting" the horses as any sort of punishment, the horses are trained to recognise the slap as a signal the rider is about to dismount. Believe me those horses want for nothing and are looked after to the highest standard, each rider must attend to his horse each morning before himself.

@RonnieRox18 its basically saying well done to them. when you pat a horse on its neck its a way of telling the horse they have done a good job :) they just have to do one big pat instead of loads of little ones as it is more proffesional and stuff :D

It would appear that the American visitor hasn't read his guide book...................does it look like Buck House?? You can see the Guards Memorial through the arch, this is a long way from Buck House.

This should be CHANGED to Guard Changing at Horse Guards , as those in the VIDEO are The Life Guards Sister Regiment of the Blues and Royals. and senior Regiment of the British Army. in which I was proud to have served for Many years. !!!

Is Britain for real? What century is this? Shiny armour, ridiculous hats and prancing about on horseback with swords? Good luck to them, I could never do that and take it seriously. Pompous ceremonial bullshit that belongs in the 17th century in my opinion, no offence. It's like something out of Monty Python!
