I just switched back to the OEM plugs. I definitely didn't like the modern iridium plug in my 05 gsxr 1000. The stock CRE9 NGK burns much more consistent. I wish I watched your video much sooner before switching plugs back out for a second time. I appreciate the heads up on performance plugs VS modern iridium plugs for performance applications.

You say "I wanted a more consistent burn so I went nickel/copper". What have you noticed with the standard copper plug over the iridium? Smoother? better fuel consumption? more power? My L6 has only just hit 12000km and tossing up whether to change now or leave them in or change out to the copper plugs.

Ngk on their website says to not use anti seize. It affects the torque and torque reading with a torque wrench. They claim the thread already has some ant seize properties in it.

Are spark plugs on a Gsxr 750 similar to the 600 or are they different? What is the manufacturer name of the spark plugs you are using?

I just changed mine in my GSX-R 600 12 and found the threads wet with i think oil. It occured on all four sparks. Any ideas? Yours look normal.

I've always used anti-seize. Today I've read in Cycle World magazine that it's not recommended on new motorcycles, because the spark plug manufacturers use metals to compensate for seizing issues. I wonder if it will negatively effect the performance or do you think it matters? I did a spark plug change on my '02 GSXR 1000 over the winter and I used a very thin application of it, as usual.
@Omega47
4 жыл бұрын
I doubt it will have any I'll effect. Regardless of manufacturer specs I always put a tiny amount on the threads. Helps prevent future headaches.

great tutorial, could I ask you 3:40 what's the equivalent of 5/8? is 16mm? and 6:36 touch of NECs (is the same thing as loctite?) Thanks mate
@Omega47
4 жыл бұрын
Sounds close a 16mm, and it was a touch of "anti seize." Not the same as loctite, it's just to ensure the plugs do not get stuck in the head when it come time to remove.

I replaced my plugs and the plug threads were really wet. Why would they be wet with oil? Leaking journals?
@Omega47
4 жыл бұрын
Wet plugs could simply be a sign of a bad valve cover gasket. Otherwise you could be consuming oil due to bad valve guide seals or piston rings. O would consider a cover gasket set first.
@timjamesvella
4 жыл бұрын
@@Omega47 thanks, the bike does seem to consume oil, it never needs topping up in-between serving. It was just the thread, not the plug or coil pack. Is the new gasket an engine out of frame job?

How would I fix a threaded problem I tried to change my spark plugs on my jigster 2007 and yeah the threads got stuck in the cylinder only the thread not the whole spark plug how would I fix that.
@Omega47
3 жыл бұрын
That is a very difficult situation. If it is only the threads there are many tricks to try and get it out. I have seen a flathead screwdriver just barely small enough to fit inside the threads and tapped in with a small hammer to get it out. I have also seen something as simple as a Torx bit socket (T40) just shoved down in there and work by the bit grabbing the ground strap of what is left of the plug and pulling it out. The major trick is to do this without damaging the head. If you don't have experience with this directly I would highly suggest taking it to someone who can. Like a shop.

Nice instructionnal video, but I don't think your statement about iridium plugs not being for performance applications is 100% right, especially after having read the whole Denso training manual thats teaches alot aboug spark plugs.
@Omega47

It's really preference and I should have mentioned that. Just with our experience with nitrous and boost applications as well sometimes high compression we have had spark consistancy issues.

You can find them anywhere and pretty affordable. They are even on Amazon. All 4 for about $130. Just Google 2007 GSXR 600 coil packs and there are tons of options to choose from.

When I worked in autoparts I had a lot of mixed reviews. The consensus I found was newer vehicles didn't agree with them too often and threw misfire codes. Depends on your year bike but if is a GSXR in my year range they are known to be sensitive to misfire detection.
