Welcome back to our AIE tutorial series to help you get to know your Honda GX 160. Today we are going to be replacing the air filter on our Honda GX160UT2QX2 with a genuine Honda Air cleaner, the 17210-Z4M-821. You’ll want to check your filter before every use. Please replace the air filter every 300 hours or every year. If the air filter is dirty upon check, please replace it immediately.
This is where we start, your filter is located right here, next to your fuel tank. First off, let’s remove the outer wing nut from the filter cover. Next, we will remove the air filter cover, giving us access to the air filter here. Now let’s remove the secondary wing nut, and that will allow us to remove the air filter from the air intake elbow.
After the air filter is removed, it is very important that this elbow gasket isn’t removed with the filter when you pull it off. If it is inadvertently removed, make sure that the elbow gasket is placed back on to the air intake elbow before installing the replacement filter. If not, you will put your engine at risk of damage from dirt ingestion.
After you make sure the elbow gasket is in place, install the air cleaner with the open end facing down. Next, we will screw back on the secondary wing nut until it’s snug. Do not overtighten, otherwise, you will risk your air filter not sealing properly. Let’s reinstall the air filter cover and screw in the top wingnut nut back on the top of the cover.
Note: These procedures are the same for all engine models from the GX120 to the GX390, excluding part number changes for Parts.
