I've got something fun for ya. Grab yourself an 8-1 collector. Run each cylinder a length of primary, whatever you need to fit. at the end of that primary you Y each off. So cylinder 1: say 12" of primary "Y" and 1 leg of that Y, we'll call it 1Y(a) is whatever the minimum length you need to get it into a merge (keep it short because you have to add this length to the other leg plus the following. Then 1Y(b) is whatever 1Y(a) is + 35-36" of pipe. to merge it into that collector. Depending on EGT we'll call it 1100 F, at 5500 RPM, the car could sound like a flat plane V8 with an 8-1 collector. This is assuming all of the diameter of the primaries and their legs are the same ID. Sounds crazy, but it's crazy so that it'll actually sound crazy. You may or may not have heard this here first. Just experiment with stacking loops of long radius 90's to fit it against the firewall. :) It's hard to predict what the EGT's will be in each primary, the hotter the exhaust gets the higher the RPM will have to be to get the intervals to work. For instance, at that extra 36" on each of the legs, on a cold header or part throttle (lower egt) it might sound like a flat plane 8-1 at 4950 rpm instead.
@HatersGarage

I would probably have to stick all of that out of the hood to make it fit, lol. I would like to design an exhaust for the highest pitch possible, I need to do some homework on that. It would help if I had an engine that revved higher. I have my E30, that's pretty high pitched as it is.

You forgot to make the 1-4/2-3 UEL! But either way, thanks for the upload. I guess it took longer to edit than you thought, huh? Anyway, if/when you go for this pairing with UEL, make it so the overall travel distance before the X, H, or Y pipe is roughly 2x compared to the other side. So from the exhaust port to the final merge (so before AND after the 4-2 merge total) is 2x the other side. 2x is the typical UEL ratio, as far as I understand it.

@Drunken_Hamster
10 ай бұрын
@@HatersGarage I feel like these are long tube enough for the powerband that car works in, especially if you make them merge back into 1 like the 4-2-1 is supposed to. If my opinion affects things at all, I say do the UEL with the 1-4/2-3 pairs by making the first merge section longer. Just loop it up and around until the total pathway is roughly 2x as long as the total pathway for the other two, then merge that into a final single exit. It's bound to be interesting, and if it doesn't sound good, you could simply switch the pairings back to 1-2/3-4 and get classic subie rumble since the only thing you would've lengthened is the second section.
@Drunken_Hamster
2 ай бұрын
@@HatersGarage So I'm not sure if the physics affects it linearly(IE add 10% so it's now 50/60) or asymmetrically/compoundingly(IE MOVE 10% so it's now 40/60), but I have a percentage number for both scenarios to potentially fabricate the "perfect" UEL based on my preferences for various cross-plane twin and V4 sounds. If it's compounding, then having the total pathway of one-half of the UEL (before the merge back into single) be 58.5% longer than the other half should give it a 285-degree delay. If it's linear, then just double that number to 117% longer.
