Thank you for clearly explaining and demonstrating this. I feel confident to do this from now on.

Thank you for demonstrating this useful technique as I an upcoming project which calls for a colour change (my own design) and will definitely give me a smoother transition between colours. And what I also appreciate about this technique is it will work if you are using different textures of yarn (not weight) as I'll be working with a combination of chenille type yarn and smooth yarn both worsted weight.

What is the best way to block a cotton knitted project?

It depends on what your making and if it is 100% cotton or a blend. It's always best to practice different blocking methods on swatches (not your actual project). A good way to start is to read your yarn label and wash and dry your swatch as recommended. That likely means machine washing and drying, but not over drying, your piece. For sweaters you may also need to hang and lightly weight your swatch (when barely damp) to see how much it lengthens so you don't end up with an overly long sweater. Don't hang or weight a damp cotton sweater though, unless you want it to grow.

Does this basically only work on natural fibers? I'm knitting with a cotton/polyester lightweight yarn and tried it. It wasn't very successful. First I couldn't pull and break the yarn, so I used a nail file to get the ends similar to what you showed, then followed the rest, but the ends still stick out where I knit it into the project. What should I do?

Hi Jayme! You're not the first person to ask me about doing the Russian join with cotton and cotton blends. I have another video that addresses the issues you mention, kzitem.info/news/bejne/02-mzI6hkXirgGk. Hope that helps. 💖🧶
