Thank you my husband has done this job five times because our pool company gave us the wrong instructions the flat side facing the wrong direction! Got to love KZitem! Now lets do it right this time!

I have an older American Multi-port valve on my pool. When I have to replace the gasket (it's been 3 years now) I take the gasket out, clean out the channels, and use a tiny line of silcone calk to set the gasket in. I then put a small board on top of the gasket with a small brick for weight and wait about an hour. Then I lube the top of the gasket and bottom of the top plate with petroleum jelly. The counter guy at Leslie's told me to never lube the top of the gasket, it will cause the gasket to stick to the top of the housing valve -- but it works just fine for me.

Can I just apply silicone if I do not have a replacement spider gasket?

Thanks for the great video! To a FIY repair guy, there'd seem to be 2 other more likely installation methods (but evidently both are WRONG): 1) apply adhesive and insert the contoured side of the spider gasket down into Item #18 - the MPV body, or 2) apply adhesive to the flat side of the gasket and insert it flat side up (onto the flat face of Item #11 - the Key/Stem assembly) BTW - the lack of installation instructions from Hayward about this common task is underwhelming.

What happens if the handle gets moved and you don't know where the original spot was. How do you re-align it?

We have the HiFlow 6 way valve P/N 272523. Our local pool store told us with this model we have to replace the whole valve and can't just change the gasket. Can you confirm. I've been able to find plenty of info about changing them. Our pool is over 8 years old and I'm wanting to ensure I have a good start up this spring. Thanks!

The Hi Flow gasket is a royal PITA to remove and clear the slots. For a DIYer it's gonna take a good while to do that, expensive if a pool tech does it. Terrible design, this valve should no longer be on the market.

I have a Pentair Multi-port valve that is over 8 years old. I'm trying to remove the original "spider" gasket...but I'm having a terrible time getting it out. It is securely stuck (and) I'm only able to cut away small pieces of it. At this rate, it's going to take me FOREVER! I'm concerned that if I get too aggressive with digging it out...I may damage the plastic trough that the gasket lies in. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! HELP!

If this spider ring is in bad shape and hasn't been changed in many years, could it cause my pool to be leaking? The water is running out of the same area as backwash.

This! Well said. I have restricted access to my multi port valve and it is a cast iron bitch trying to pick out the old gasket. Good video otherwise but that ol' gasket.....
