He’s a much better actor than the roles he’s gotten would show. At least in the past. Now people are waking up more to his talent, not just seeing him as the hot buff dude
@samrogers5090

People who watch movies have seen him as more than that for a while. Doing the jump street movies and even that cameo in this is the end changed perception (particularly male) because it showed he isn’t just trying to be the hot guy in Hollywood he can laugh at himself. He was also in foxcatcher, the kingsmen sequel and he had that part in Hateful 8. He wouldn’t have gotten those parts if studios and public perception still saw him as the guy from step up and dear John.

I've known this 21 Jump street, but most people consume a movie or show just to be able to tell you 2 things that happened in it. The amount of people I've seen watch a movie but not really watch it or retain any information from it is truly astounding. These type of people can only remember things like Jersey shore, NCIS, Blue Bloods, Friends and any other basic ass type of show (I do like friends tho)

@purpledragons1146

There's actually a ridiculous amount of expenses for major movies. The cinema takes 40% of the box office and with marketing costs factored in a studio typically has to make at least double just ti make their money back.
@Charlesperalo

Theaters take 40-70% and the budget doesn’t include marketing. On 175m, it needs about 350-400m.
@budgiecat9039
6 ай бұрын
I don't find that funny. Here's why: Clearly the Step it Up or whatever the hell that movie was called with a budget of $12 million walk away with an insane budget to profit ratio. Though for Channing, that only helped him as a stepping stone because people are like hey you were starring in that highly successful movie,and so, they hire you for more roles but with a budget of $12 million he clearly wasn't paid that much but again' stepping stone 🪨 But getting back to the movie math: Say a much higher film cost 150 million to develop and it makes $309 million: To the average moron, they'll see that and go " ooh well derpy doodaa day they just made double their money back hows that a bad thing they profited and then some even made 9 million extra on top of doubling it hurr hurr" Yeah no. For some stupid reason, Hollywood only likes to report the development budget instead of the development budget AND marketing budget. And many times, the marketing budget for a big movie can be anywhere from 50 to 80% in comparison. So you can have a 150 million dollar development budget for a movie which easily could have a 100 million dollar marketing budget on top of that. So now you have a $250 million dollar movie that needs to make its money back and on top of that extra money as profit to make it a worthy investment. Now that we got that out of the way, let's talk theater costs: Domestic movie theaters need to make money no? So typically they take 40 to 50% of each ticket sale. Then, if you go overseas with your movie, those theaters can take anywhere from 50 to 60%. Want to release your film on China? Sure....but you better be prepared for them to take 75% of the ticket sale as per:a 2012 mandate issued by the CCP government of China. So a movie like The Flash, that made 13 million in China? Warner Bros got $3 million out of that. So...a movie that has a $150 development budget, probably has a marketing budget of $80 to $100 million on top of it so let's just say $250 million; then you need to factor the amount subtracted from said box office gross to the theaters which like I said can be anywhere from 40 to 75%.....and now you see that a "$300 million box office gross" isn't really "oh they just made double their money back". No...that means they LOST money.

@@budgiecat9039 That does make more sense now, I’d never been informed before. I always wondered about the discrepancy between the stated cost and reported revenue. So since the actual “profit” after production costs and all the other costs mentioned in this example isn’t even 30% it’s taken as a loss. I appreciate the detailed explanation, it was very informative. Thanks.
