Templars. I start to recognize why they have so simmilar chant to old Rome. Beacuse that was only on this time, i mean 1000 Years time ago. IT was the best. All best for Catholic from Poland. Brothers.

Yt just pushed the video and happy it happened. Might be removed for couple of reasons, among them that is Christian music and because belongs to a time when there was only one Christian Church, how it should've been.

This is called "old roman chants". Marcel Peres is a musicologist based in the south of France that both research and revive these magnificient pieces, which were for long the official chants of the roman church. Most of the manuscripts disappeared (most were burned we think) with the gregorian reform between the XIII and XIV century. Many think the high difficulty to perform and understand this music was one of the reason, as the gregorian chants were far easier to sing and comprehend : they were a better tool to educate the masses, and the clergy's preoccupation at the time wasn't exactly the quality of the music. I must admit I'm not personnaly convinced it's the only reason, as the disappearance of these chants was rather brutal. If anyone knows more about the reasons the pope had to make this music disappear, i'm very curious.

@@jean-poljacques4284 Perhaps it also had to do with the sound, for example the melisma, which increasingly may have begun to seem more ‘Eastern’ as Catholic Christianity developed the musicological innovation of polyphony and diverged culturally from Orthodox and Eastern Christianity in its own way. This theme of distancing goes back to the Great Schism and at its core is a dispute over the legacy of Rome between the Eastern Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, which was supported by the Pope. Removing part of the evidence that the East maintained an inheritance (in chant and customs) closer to that of the original Romans may have been one reason for the disappearance of these chants in the West.

@@jean-poljacques4284 After the separation of East and West, the true spirit of Christianity was repulsive to many Westerners. Most of all the Pope, it was Avignon who had the Roman chant of old destroyed. One can find dozens of reasons for the expulsion of this music, but at the root, it is the disdain for the traditions of our fathers as Saint Photios would explain in the eighth century. Disain and the desire for innovation as the writers of the Roman church post schism frequently speak about, forced the West to move away from the true Spirit of the Faith, albeit not all at once. The Old Roman Chant was still being used up until the thirteenth century. This disdain for the Tradition of the Church grows into outright hatred and eventually anyone who does anything "eastern" is anathema. One can see this today in the so called "gregorian" chant of Rome. It is not historically practiced in the least, and anyone who attempts to do so is shunned. Very tragic state of affairs. Anyway, learned all of this when we met Marcel Peres just last week! He spent a whole week teaching us how to chant this stuff!! It isnt all gloom, people want to hear this, especially in the church! May the Lord grant such things to us all!
