As a born again Christian, who loves audio books, it is VERY refreshing to listen to books of this caliber. That, while being very realistic to the scenario, also aren’t too sexually/brutally charged. The lack of curse words,!and the upholding of modesty with this type of subject is indeed impressive. Where as with other authors, it is… well … lacking . Great job ! Can’t wait for more books like this one!

@@ChristineKerseyBooks I would be more concerned with non-government controlled labs. Labs in the CDC have levels. Level 1 would be flu virus, salmonella, something less of a problem. At Level 4, you would have basically a space suit, and shower protocols, and a buddy system. At this level, there are failsafes to ensure samples cannot mix. Even if they did, the unit would have likely locked down due to the loss of power before they could mix. Can’t say the same for the civilian labs. Just started this book, but it seems to excellent so far. One thing I noticed, there seems to be more weapons among this group of middle aged office workers than the average gang banger. For those who think that all the violence starting so quickly is unrealistic---think again. Our cities are filled with mentally unbalanced people and a whole lot of spoiled, immature people who would have no problem hurting others if they think they can get away with it. What I appreciated was that the story deals with an idea that most disaster stories don't: during a regular day, your family would be widely separated. Husband and wife at their offices, kids in different schools. Not a problem with cars, but on foot? It reminds us that before the advent of cars, there was a dammed good reason for work, home, school and groceries to all be next door to each other. Good story.

Intelligence isn’t inherited in such a straightforward way, but a surprising number of people seem to think it is. With a few exceptions, two people of average intelligence who have four kids are statistically likely to have one who’s a bit thick, one who’s smart and two who are average. And two dumb people are also likely to have one kid in four who is smart. I actually had an aunt and uncle who met in special school. Both were just assessed as generally low intelligence. They had three daughters: the eldest, scholastically average but a shrewd smart, practical thinker. The second also scholastically average, but one of those almost militantly ignorant types. The youngest was very smart in every way.

My thought when I realized it was probably an EMP was to head to the basement for fear of nukes coming. Then if nukes dont hit, venture out thinking it could be solar flares. Anyone else think this? I do stay strapped & have a get home bag with me at all times. I keep other provisions in my trunk like a scooter, paper map, water,ect. Wish I had a foldable bike, but for now that remains on my wishlist. Good book.

Christine, I like this book and may go on the listen to all of the series. I too am a writer and can see where you are coming from. If I may offer some insights First I have lived and fought in Iraq, a quite post apocalyptical place if there is one and I am am an electrical engineer. Issues from the book: Not all of the phones would be dead/fried, none of course would work as the electrical grid and the cell towers would be fried. Not all of the people would be nuts at first, there is what is called the normalcy bias, you assume that everything is fine until you get your nose rubbed in the poop, then the new normal will kick in, so initially people will refuse to see reason. Some people like the homeless are already nuts, so no change there. The lack of cops who are totally dependent on automobiles and radios, they would be out of commission initially. Now what happens after day two, the weird stuff begins to happen. I guess I will have to read

Stories like these make me want to reevaluate my SHTF supplies. General consensus is that most people won't die from violence, it will be from dehydration due to diarrhea from unpurified water.

At 3:50 or so; I do not agree with the decision to let the man live. He already proved he’d kill a person to take their food. Letting him live meant they were letting other innocent victims to be killed. In other words, letting that man live means they were allowing others to be killed, others that did nothing wrong.

I absolutely loved listening to your Pandemic series! I am on Chapter 12 of this series and I really like it the only problem is I've already seen 12 ads so an ad for every chapter? I listen while I'm doing things and that many stops and starts makes it to choppy for me. I hope everyone else enjoys it, maybe I'll try again someday.

Seldom does one come across a well written and inspirational/positive audio novel and narrated so well by the author as well. Most narrators have to either edit their audio with an app (like audacity) or work with another narrator to differentiate between the male and female characters. Despite using your own natural voice, you where able to convey clearly who was who (Alex,Jason, Melissa, etc.) through simple voice inflections without disrupting the thought process of the listener. I wish I was as talented as you =) Thus, liked,subbed and ready to listen to more. Thank You!

Loved tha book PG, LDS style.. Note will be a toll in Rose Park, $o bring extra granola and candy bar$! Plus I think 33rd to 45th on 7th is going to be a war zone gangs, unhoused and (D)emocrats. Also I think there's a serial fire bug more buildings would have been on fire fort Union and brickyard last few years have been hit. Plus couches, trash, little backyard fire pits would have been lit closer to evening. Definitely someone's going to be carrying around one of those mosquito tiki torches. Don't forget we have the homeless serial killer also 60+. Tried to find flaws.. when you run diesel out "might" require additional steps to reprime the fuel system. Flashlight in a safe might survive.. now you got me thinking DIY Faraday cage. Thanks again 😉

Problem with this is that no one would know what had happened. There would be huge levels of confusion and people working to crossed purposes. You might think an EMP fit the bill but you would not know. As we saw during Covid most people rely on others to tell that what to believe, what to do and where to go.

One small, nitpicking point; when a diesel vehicle runs out of fuel, it can't simply be refilled and started like a gas vehicle. The injectors fill with air and need to bled, like brake lines. I learned this the hard way.
@ChristineKerseyBooks

We have a diesel truck, but we've never run out of fuel, so that's good to know.

That depends on the make and model of the vehicle. Some injectors are self bleeding with a fuel return. However on the newer vehicles injectors may be timed with the ECM, also the fuel shutoff is computer controlled. So, perhaps an older diesel would still operate.

The narration is difficult to listen to as it is very choppy. I believe the author, also the narrator, will get better with practice. I listened to the entire book, as the story moves quickly and held my interest. Characters are believable. I am eager to begin the next book to see where the story goes next. Enjoyed it enough to look at other books by this author. Well done.
