Welcome to the Bahamas. A never ending job of trying to find protection from the ever changing wind and weather. RECOMENDATION: Get to the eastern Caribbean ASAP. The wind is with rare exception is nearly aways in the Easter quadrant. You can anchor on the west side of nearly anything. Also unless summer tropical system, lightning and thunder are very rare, you will get rain for your tanks but thank God not the electricity with it. Bahamas is a good place to start but the more SE you go, the better it gets. Turks Caicos onward best. We went non-stop from the Abacos to Tortola VI. Several places to stop if you want.

Good to hear! It is crazy that people say it's an easy place to sail, because you're always moving to hide from the wind.

Looks like you need some more clear vinyl to enclose more of the cockpit for rainy days. A side anchor or secondary aft line attached midway to anchor rode might have changed boat direction to avoid side swells, however given the wind speeds and other boat/sea floor factors, might not have been safe and led to dragging.
@Spoondrifters

yes, we need to get an enclosure built. Will make a big difference in stormy weather.

yes, that is definetly a factor in why we didn't try those things in these situations.

Todd, Use a stern anchor to shift the boat so you face bow into the swell for a more comfortable time at anchor, they're a bit of hassle to set up but if you're there for several days it's worth the effort.

We've taken three trips to the Bahamas, but we're home right now. I'd give anything to be anchored in some crappy anchorage in the Bahamas right now getting the crap kicked out of me by the wind.

Get some of those trawler chutes to put on the beams, this will minimize rocking.

Regardless of what type of vessel you're on, sailing, yachting, boating, is all about perspective with a pinch of daily adventure and constant learning thrown in. Learning how to perceive the bad days as acceptable makes the good days phenomenal.

Tammy, Do you have some old glasses with broken frames? pop the lenses out and attach them to the inside of your snorkel mask, I'm sure Todd can figure something out (hot glue or something?) It might not be a long term solution but it might work in the short term.

I highly recommend SeaVision dive mask. I had the red tinted ones. As red is the first color to be filtered out of the light spectrum by the water / the mask brings out the true colors of the reef.

Great video, looks like you are all having a great time! About the side on swell, wondering if you have tried rigging a bridle to a mid cleat to change the direction of the bow? I did this on my last boat, but my new boat doesn't have a mid cleat to rig this, it was a great help on my last boat, I could get the bow closer to head on the swell and it was a much nicer motion. Did not work in tight anchoring situations though as my boat did not swing like others
